Solved Battery plugged in not charging.

The last 2 days I have had this problem with a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and have been using it with the power adapter/charger plugged in. Yet this morning I have started up the laptop with the power plugged in, and now it shows that the battery is plugged in & charging !!
Checking the battery yesterday it showed " battery life- moderate." As everything works fine with the power adapter plugged in, I assume that the adapter is fine.
If the problem arises again, can I use a power adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop which runs Windows 7 ? This Inspiron 1545 laptop runs Windows Vista.
Hopefully someone can advise re the use of the 630M adapter with the 1545. Will it be safe ? I do not want to cause damage to the Vista machine.

Thought there may have been some suggestions from members here. Anyhow, for reasons unknown to me,and suggested by a third party, - let the battery run down to 20% or thereabouts, and then plug in the charger.I followed that advice and it is now charging the battery once more. It has been suggested to me that some laptops will not recharge the battery if it is 80-90% full when you plug in the adapter/charger.
I looked at other similar posts in here, which included going into Device Manager, and uninstalling, then reinstalling something to do with the battery/adapter, but that seemed to deep for me.

An answer here is predicated by someone else happening to have those models. It would probably be OK but I would be asking Dell UK Support. Support | Dell UK

Usually charging only occurs if the machine is idle but that varies from brand to brand. It would probably be OK to swap chargers, but I would ask Dell first.

Ex_Brit, Thanks for that suggestion. I will certainly contact Dell support, as, so it happens, everything yesterday was working fine, and now this morning, when plugging in and starting up, the battery is again "plugged in, not charging."

It now seems to be the fault is being caused by the adapter/charger wire or the connection plug-in. I have twisted the plug-in to a different position to what it normally was, and everything is working fine now.
