What are you using for cooling on the Q6600 to keep it stable at that speed?

It's air-cooled using a ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme HS with a Scythe SFF12F 120mm (very quiet) fan. I used Arctic Silver for paste. No lapping or extra work involved. I'm running the G0 at near-stock voltage (1.325V) and did not have to change or alter anything else -- NB, FSB, etc.

BTW, I actually uploaded a much larger image including some of the Vista configuration info, but it looks like it got cropped. Email me at [bgetchel] at {gmail} dot you know what if you want more detailed screenshots/information.

Re: Window Experience Index Scores

I was going to buy a ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme when I got my CPU but they were out of stock, so I though I would wait and water cool it at a later date.

What sort of temps are you getting idle and under load? as I might pick one up when they are back in stock.

Idle temps are 32-40C and jump around a bit depending upon the core. Core #0 seems to run 2-3C hotter than the rest. However, the U120x seems to handle loads very well. Testing with CoreTemp and Prime95 using their "Torture Test" only increases temps 10-15C max. After nine hours of P95 temps ranged from 45-55C, but mostly stayed in the 46-52C range, flicking occasionally over 50C. Never over 55C even for the hottest core.

Initially I was worried that idle temps seemed higher than most reports, and that I may have mounted the HSF incorrectly, but load temps are right in line with the best of the air-cooled reports and are nice and cool, so everything looks rosy.

Re: Window Experience Index Scores

I highly recommend Thermalright HSFs too... I myself am using a Thermalright Ultima 90 with an Antec Tricool 92 mm fan set to medium (1500 rpm). I got it after reading good reviews about it at Anandtech. It barely gets warm to the touch even when playing games.
