Dual cores are very good chips, but obviously quad has double the processors, so therefore, will outperform dual, it's black and white.
I remember having a Q6600, and loved every minute of it, but was covered in darkness by my recently purchased Q9650 ...unreal

Thank ur lucky stars you're not running a Pentium 3 or 4, not offense to anybody that is using one...amazing how far technology has come.

It was in the computer I had that stopped working.

I have what is basically a whole computer sitting dormant. It's got a Q6600 in it, 4Gb of DDR2 ram (800~mhz), a geforce 8800GT 512mb, blu-ray/dvd drives and 2 500Gb HDDs (the HDDs may well be ****ed beyond recognition).

It's not a bad machine, but my new one's faster due to it being 64bit Vista and using all of the 4Gb DDR3 ram. And it works.

The reason I got the new PC (which you'll see under my system specs) was because I started getting problems with the Q6600 one. At first it seemed like just a graphics problem, and the geforce was replaced... that didn't work. So then the motherboard and graphics card were replaced... that sorted the graphics problem. Then windows just started hanging as soon as it had loaded. I complained to Dell and eventually they gave up on the rig and sent me a brand new one.

I'm not quite sure how I'd go about fixing the 2 500Gb HDDs from my old computer - but I've still got all the install disks so I figure even if I don't get the 2 HDDs fixed... if I stuck a new one in there and put a fresh install of windows on it, I may well have a 2nd working tower.

But who knows!

Re: Window Experience Index Scores

Well the way I see it is (HDD issue asides) I can spend £200~ and set it up as a 2nd working PC, or I can fix the HDD thing and sell just the tower on for about £400-£500. It's still a fairly good PC, all things considered... I just have a better one now.

Thoughts?
