I have administration rights, and this is a fresh install on a formatted partition of my harddrive. This is driving me insane. It was working prior but I had to reinstall to get the drivers for my network adapter to work.

I have tried reformatting TWICE and it's still giving me trouble.

Here's some examples:

Latest 8800 GTS drivers:

1) Publisher could not be verified... etc. etc: I click Run
2) UAC does its annoying stuff: I click Allow
3) NVIDIA Windows Vista x64 Display Drivers has stopped working.
4) Close the program
5) The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) Click OK to terminate the application: Click OK
6) NVIDIA Windows Vista x64 Display Drivers has stopped working.
7) Close the program
8) Lower right corner states the program was closed. (No crap)

Firefox 2.0.0.7

1) Publisher could not be verified... etc. etc: I click Run
2) UAC does its annoying stuff: I click Allow
3) Firefox has stopped working.
4) The program might have not installed correctly

Sound Blaster X-Fi Drivers (Latest)

1) UAC does its annoying stuff: I click Allow
2) Self installation has stopped working

I also get a "80200053" error in Windows update... and I dont know what this means. I've never seen it and can't find much of anything on it.

Any help is appreciated!

Right click the driver file and select run as administrator.

You should take full ownership of all volumes and disable UAC.

That would end all install problems. Be sure ou have working AV, FW and spyware applications running before disableing UAC if you choose to do so.

On your windows update problem, try going to Windows > SoftwareDistribution > Download and remove or delete everything in the folder (I deleted mine). That should let you download windows updates. Which in return should solve some other compatibility problems.

Also to turn off uac: go to the control panel, click on User Accounts, click on Turn User Account Control on or off, uncheck it and click on OK.

Guys... this is driving me nuts. I've reformatted my computer THREE times and it's still giving me "No you can't install this, I know whats better for you, I'm Vista" crap. I was able to install my wireless drivers but after that it just doesn't do anything.

I can't even get Firefox to install. I'm stuck with this horrible unintuitive Internet Explorer interface....

Don't run install files directly from the web - Put them somewhere convenient, right click, and select Run As Administrator.

Of course I've tried that.

"The publisher could not be verified" blah blah blah

Click Run, Firefox has stopped working! Hurrah! :)

I appreciate the help, honestly I do. I wish I could complain to Microsoft and get this software off my hands and get my money back. This infuriates me. My system works totally fine on XP.

My Computer

Try running the installers in both compatibility mode and with admin rights. Then set the installed programs for compatibility mode and admin rights (if needed) after they are successfully installed.

Have you tried a different Hard Drive? Tried a drive check? The one you are using might be knackered. Sorry if its new, but you haven't said much about the drive.
Also..have you got the latest bios for your motherboard..some release bios specifically for 64bit problems.

My hard drive is 2 months old.

I'm getting these errors on everything!

I can't even install the SP1 RC Public Availability exe..... Internet explorer is telling me the publisher can't be verified and I click run and it says it stopped working.

WHAT is going on.

I'm so aggrivated. I wonder if this'll ever be solved. It seems because no one else is having problems I'll never know why this garbage his happening :(

EDIT:

Maybe this will help:

"Windows has found a problem with this file:

name: swflash.cab
Publisher: Unknown Publisher"

and when I try to install the Flash activeX controller on IE7:

"Windows has found a problem with this file:

name: ultrashim.cab
Publisher: Unknown Publisher"

Remember this is a fresh install, only user ont he computer, I've tried compatibility, i've tried running as admin, etc.

I take it you formatted before installation and also did a chkdisk to bring up any hard faults on the hard drive?
So..if so then...OK..as I said...please take out that hard drive and install windows on another hard drive. That will indicate that it is the hard drive that is faulty. I had a hard drive that was only a day old and it went kaput. I returned it for a replacement and all was OK. They are only components like anything else and are subject to failure. It just so happens that you may be the victim of one of these faulty drives.

So to be clear. This is not an upgrade install over XP, this is a clean install on a new Hard drive, yes?
If so, then why not try to install XP on that new drive to see if that installs OK. If not then it deffo is the hard drive thats faulty. If it does install OK, then maybe your bios and chipsets need to be updated to the latest drivers that are Vista compatible.
Another thing..when you attempt to install vista, does it come up with some dialogue saying that there are any incompatabilities..usually pops up at the beginning of installation.

No pop ups or complaints.

I have clean installed XP, formatted and put vista on, formatted put XP on, formatted and put Vista on.

I do have the latest bios, and Vista was working prior with my mobo in any case.

And firefox as I've said is not my only problem. Simply nothing will install at all.

Well to be honest I am clean out of ideas. Its probably so simple as well...but..what it is...dunno. Send a pm to "brink"-the administrator of this site. He might have more ideas. Sorry I cannot help anymore. Good Luck.

I'm gonna ask my buddy if I can borrow his not so legitimate copy of Vista... can I use my legal CD key on that? I just wanna test to see if the discs are the problem.

Since it seems to be linked to .cabs or something.

I mean its worth a shot right?
