well i bought viewsonic 22" HD lcd monitor and installed the nvidia drivers and all and also connected it through my DVI cable to my gefrce 8600GT but when i change the display to HD in the nvidia settings the resolution actually goes very low and the display looks really bad.....anything i havent done or i should be doing to enhance or get my full HD view on an 1680x1050 resolution??

Did you make sure that the settings on the monitor are proper? Sometimes it won't auto detect and you'll have to tell the monitor (through it's own menus) what to do.

22’ monitors really are not true high definition so you must keep the resolution at 1050.
If you want a monitor that displays 1080 or better you need to upgrade to a 24” or larger monitor

thats not true computers have been using higher resolutions than HD for years now and to answer anyone elses questions HD is a lower resolution than a full strength analogue signal not to mention HD tv/monitors will only work with an HD signal going to them in full HD so no benefit will be recieved from DVD's on an HD screen as they are not HD.

to answer original q you may have your resolution slightly wrong just try a few others to see what looks best.

now wait a minute...so u want me to plug in my comp with a AVI cable rather than a DVI cable to get better clarity and quality and stuff??

My Computer

no not saying that but if you are used to a smoother picture then it is very noticeable. the picture with HD and DVI is clear but actually looks better on VGA less crisp if you get my meaning writing looks better as its not so sharp. if you try to imagine what a movie thats meant to be a bit blurry or grainy, in full HD it's all clear loses all it's atmosphere kinda why i like the cinema

k...i dont know if im sounding insane but the i just compared the quality of videos on both AVI and DVI and i found that the videos were much smooother on AVI. and even the fonts look really better on AVI
Is it just me??

My Computer

allright allright.....remember that i said that the overall quality of pictre and everything was better on AVI...turns out i was wrong ...BIG time....
u see when u connect the DVI cable my graphics card automatically just took the lowest quality for some reason. and it had all these adjustments such as digital vibrance and edge correction and ...etc....well i turned all of those off an WOLA!! the picture quality is about atleast 5 times better....
i know im talking to myself but i though if anyone needed help in future this would be a reference
cheers

yeah i noticed that too sorry for not replying and i agree but i do like DVI for gaming but for using office i prefer AVI just for being less well what i said before but go DVI it is better just for movies i prefer AVI so i get that grainy atmosphere thingy that well makes some movies more than what they are!!
