Is it really worth buying the 9600 video cards, or should I just wait to buy the 10 series video cards whenever they may come out. I am not in a rush to buy one, I dont really have much to do with it.

What else can i do besides play games with an extreme video card? 3ds max, or video codding, I use F@H to contribute my idle cpu, is there a way to contribute idle video card usage?

I have a hans-G 19" and will buy a Samsung 19" soon for dual screen.

I have a 7900GTO which has dual dvi ports

I am heading in UWaterloo to do computer sciences, anything that you recommend i begin in study or practice? And that may give a reason to buy a powerful pc?

I take it that you don't play GFX demanding computer games.. :P (a 7900GTO is a pretty weak contender isn't it? Or are my standards way too high?).

To answer your question, wait till the 9800 series comes out. Compared to the 9600GT (as beautiful as it is), is going to be blown away by the 9800, like the 8600GT is completely obliterated by the 8800GT.

I'm no expert, but having a rather powerful computer does have its advantages, in the long term (and perhaps in computer science). I'd keep money on the processor and memory for now, if games aren't the necessity right now. But if you do find out whats best, tell me as I'm also planning to go into computer science in uni (2 more years!!)

Awsome, Im actually going in 2 years also, I was thinking about buying an intel pc because I really got screwed after buying a socket 939 AMD. The q6600 is overclockable to 3.6ghz so that would be really nice to have. And I'll take your advice and wait, I might just wait till i go to university to see what I'll need

Thats my idea too, although the 8800GTs look like the best thing since.. well, my 8800GTS :P

I have a Intel Core2Duo 6420 with a stock clock speed of 2.13GHz. But I managed to pump it up to 3.21GHz (8* Multiplier with a FSB of 400MHz) without crashes (beyond that, the BIOS complains. Very annoying). Its currently running at 22 degrees Celcius, air cooled :P

My friend has a Dual core AMD, and he hates it.
