Multi Monitor help

I have a widescreen monitor and a 5:4 monitor. I use the widescreen monitor as my primary monitor and for my XBOX 360. The problem is that When I unplug the widescreen to plug in the XBOX360, the 5:4 becomes the primary, and all of my settings for the widescreen are reset. Is there a program/way to force windows to keep the widescreen active even when it is disconnected?

Vista Ultimate
Radeon X1800 XT
Widescreen - Acer VGA monitor with DVI to VGA adapter
5:4 - Dell DVI monitor

If you never installed monitor specific drivers and windows is using a generic driver, then that could cause your problem.
If you had the correct driver installed for the monitor it should save your info for when you plug it back in.
There is not a way to keep your second monitor from becoming the primary because the computer needs it and does this automatically to give you a display when the primary is unplugged.

I have a similar problem. I use an LCD in the PC case as a secondary display, HDMI to TV as a primary. Desktop extended onto secondary. It works fine unless I power the PC before the TV,,,, then Vista reverses primary & secondary for good even if I power down then up again TV first so the only way I know how to get back to TV watching mode is to use a mouse to detup the displays again. Boring for me & too tricky for my kids. Anyone know how to force Vista to go back to the 2 display set-up if HDMI is powered when PC boots?
