| Vista 64-bit Ultimate Win7 64-bit Ultimate XP SP3 32-bit Pro | Newbie question Hello all. Right to the point! I have one PCI Express x16 open. Can I use a PCI Express 2.0 x16 in that slot and have it work correctly? Thank you! Later Ted |

| Windows 7 RC | Re: Newbie question I must be a newbie too ![]() Had to look that one up. Here's what I found out. PCIe 2.0 is 100% backward compatible. Any PCIe 1.x card should work in any PCIe 2.0 motherboard. The link will have to clock down to the slower PCIe 1.x speed. But since that is as fast as the card is designed to communicate anyway, no performance will be lost. I hope this helps. |
