What I'm worried about is the watts needed to run this setup. The EVGA site says a 500w, but the XFX site says at least 630w.

lol suggestions on a 2 x 6 pin possible psu that's 650 or greater?

Re: NVIDIA slashes price of GTX 260 and 280 GPUs

Those suggestions are way out of Wack.. I'm SURE you could use a 500w and get by more than ok.. they overdue the recommended watss to cover there @$$.. But make sure you get a good PSU, that is a important part of the puzzle. I have the Corsair 520HX.. it's one of the best you can get.. I'd get the Corsair 620HX if your worried about it..

p.s I'm going to the store after work today.. Getting the GTX 260, or the 280. Have not decided yet.

Re: NVIDIA slashes price of GTX 260 and 280 GPUs

Ya I've heard the 260 is just like the 280 for lower Res.. I run lower cuz I only have a 22inch widescreen.. Oh and one other thing. if you look at reviews on the 260 vs the 4870.. If you can find reviews that show game FPS based on Resolution and they have 22" screens listed, or 1680 x 1050.. the GTX 260 is on par, if not Equally better than the 4870 at that Resolution.. I saw them switching Wins and the 260 actually won more at that resolution. and the difference when 4870 won, was like 2FPS usually, but when 260 won, they were 4-10 FPS..

I got the 260.. I couldn't get the 280 cuz I didn't make enough cash today.. I have it, but didnt wanna spend that much. Plus the store I was at only had it for 499.. online it's $439 and 449 at most places.. and I got my 260 for $279.00 BOOYA. I got the eVGA GTX 260 for 279. can't beat that.

Sorry you can't be doing what I'm doing. I'm going to install it right now. just in safe mode getting the latest driver.. See you on the other side guys!!!

Re: NVIDIA slashes price of GTX 260 and 280 GPUs

Sory I never messaged back.. OK so not sure if you had been following my other threads.. but I got the 260.. opened it up.. and get this. it was a GTX280.. no lie. It was a 280. with a GTX260 sticker on it.. someone at eVGA messed up big time.. But, sadly I had to return it because it was faulty and no good.. I've been hearing horror stories about the GTX280.. almost half of the owners are having overheating issues. it got to over 106C within 4 seconds of loading most games. then the fan would start pulsing really hard up and down. then Crash... I've heard this is happening in Large numbers on the 280, but that the GTX260 is sitting PRETTY..

So, I returned the 280 for another one.. but I'd paid for a 260, so I got another 260.. and it's perfect.. I don't have anything but Good to say about the 260

Jamull, you should get one. they are great cards.. they OC far more than the 4870 can. and in end it's a better card.. plus it's got nvidia's better makers and better warranty's. eVGA has lifetime warranty, not to mention the 90 day step up program.. so in 1 month when the 260 comes out on a smaller 55nm Processing Core. all i have to do is pay the difference and eVGA will mail me one.

So far I have my GTX260 Oc'd from stock settings of 576 MHz Core to 648/1404/1215 and thats beating people's scores on 3DMark06 that have the 280, or the 4870.. Does that give you an idea how good this card is. It's just as good as the 280, but with less possibilities for problems. the 280 is a overpowered card... and the 260 is just perfect in my opinion. get one and you will be happy with it. I know I am.

I got a score of over 16,000 in 3DMark 06. so if you've used that, then you'll know thats a fairly decent score. Let me know what you do.. Good Luck!
