    Question about the x2

    How much ram would my 32 bit pc loose if i upgraded it with an ati x2 gfx card? Currently have 4gb ram & 512mb gfx card, with only 3.2mb ram recognised, ill assume it would be around 1.7gb??

    If thats the case, a lot of users will be upgrading their vista to 64 bit. Dont know how many 64 bit users there are now, but looks like this card pretty much demands it.

    Your memory would drop to 3GB's as the other 1GB is being used up by device drivers and other system resources.

    No your memory will not drop to 1.7GB's.

    I own the Radeon 3870X2.

    The x2 is 2GB so wouldnt it drop down to 2GB?

    yes....

    it would in fact on a x32 system drop to around 1.7gb with 2gb vram & bios functions taken into account.

    Note quite, the 3870X2 only has 1GB of video memory, and on a 32bit system it would drop the the memory to 3GB's of ram. However, the 4870X2 will drop the memory on a 32bit OS to around 2GB's of ram.

    Which x2 though? 3870 or 4870? Think people are thinking of one or the other, as the 3870x2 is 1GB and 4870x2 is 2GB.
