Re: 9800 GT Vista x64 problem

Fixed the problem this morning. Flashed the BIOS on the motherboard to one newer version and it works fine.

MSI P43-F motherboard and MSI 9800GT video card if anyone else is having this issue. It took a while to get the download from the website because MSI's live update doesn't support Chrome and the error was crashing IE, but they do have an update program you can download and install on your machine.

I just got a new system as a wedding present and am having trouble getting the graphics card to work. I am fairly certain the card is working fine as we tested it in another system that uses XP and it works.

Until my card came, my friend was loaning me a 8800 which worked fine. Once mine came in I have had problems.

I have an MSI 9800 GT and am running Vista x64 Home Premium.

Only the standard vga driver seems to be stable.
I have installed every NVIDIA forceware version that lists the 9800 GT and none of them work. After installing any of them but the newest beta driver package the system shows the little windows loading bar then has a black screen. With the newest beta drivers windows will come up, but has frequent freezes. When I say freeze I mean the fan and power continue as normal, but the screen stops frozen in a frame and the mouse and keyboard do not respond.

It freezes every time I try to run a 3d game, run dxdiag, or any 3d system test program. It also freezes frequently in Internet explorer, but not Chrome. Often it freezes at a screensaver as well.

I don't think this is a power issue because I have a 700 W power supply which ran the 8800 just fine, and I would think I could get the other drivers to boot windows at least if it was a power issue.

Any thoughts?
Hi try this if you hav`nt already, when u are in device manager, double click your card that is giving u the prob ,and when it brings u to the next window where u usually change the driver,[ dont ] down the bot of the window there is option for disable the card, [do this] and you should be using the basic windows display screen then. Restart pc and go to device manager and and reinstall card and driver,it worked for me so I hope it helps.

Re: 9800 GT Vista x64 problem

i too have the same prob as the guy with the MSI P43-F motherboard... however... i have a MSI P45Neo3-FR and have the same problem... internet crashes... nvidia control panel crashes... i just dont know how to flash the bios of my MOBO, if someone can help me... please... i would be deeply gratefull. by the way, i have read that it is not necessary to flash a bios through a floppy drive, with a pen drive too... if i can do that, with my pendrive, please send me a utility so i can deal with the problem quickly. or just bring on some other alternatives.

Re: 9800 GT Vista x64 problem

I also am having the same problem however I am using an Asus PQ5 Pro motherboard and E8400 processor.

Pretty much in any 3d app, games, benchmark etc. it freezes within under a minute of playing. Some times window's recovers, some times it's fatal, but I have yet to play a game. Tried Oblivion and Rainbow six vegas 2.

System specs:

pq5 pro
E8400
4GB memory
windows vista home premium 64 bit.

Please help as I am setting this computer up for my little brother and he is not able to repair on his own.
