i recently connected 2 monitors on my computer. but i play a lot of games and they are played in fullscreen mode. i also talk to some people who dont have mics on skype or aim. but when i click on the other desktop to talk to someone on aim, my game minimizes. i understand why this happens, cuz the other monitor is just an extension of my current one, but i still would like to keep my game in fullscreen mode when i click on my other desktop, any help on doing this?

thank you :D

p.s. i also noticed when i play certain games, i cant get my mouse to the other desktop, anyway to make it go and stay on the game as well?

hi monster, unfortunately you cannot have independent desktops as you answered the question yourself, the mouse can't be used in two different places at once, and neither can the keyboard, the only way I can think of talking to your friends while you are in-game is by xfire or an in-game chat client similar to xfire, believe it or not, full screen applications are dependent on input devices to be connected at all times, there was a time when the mouse was directly drawn into the games but not now, applications take exclusive control of these devices.

Only way I know of to be able to do what you want is to run the game in windowed mode.

i also noticed when i play certain games, i cant get my mouse to the other desktop, anyway to make it go and stay on the game as well?

The Sims or something similar? While not free (there is a free trial) this,

Realtime Soft UltraMon

will allow you to lock the mouse to the monitor the game is one (can even assign a keystroke so you can enable/disable it from within the game). Also has a ton of other useful features, the biggest of which (at least too me) is the Smart Taskbar,

Smart Taskbar

If you often have multiple applications open at the same time, the Smart Taskbar will help you manage them efficiently, by adding additional taskbars for each secondary monitor.
You can choose between two modes:

  • Standard: each taskbar only shows applications from the monitor it is on, so you won't have to search for an application after activating it. If you move an application to a different monitor, its taskbar button will be moved to the corresponding taskbar
  • Mirror: each taskbar shows all tasks, allowing you to quickly switch tasks on any monitor
