I recently re-installed vista home premium back on my vaio vgn-fz17g laptop after the system crashed and i noticed a few problems. 1. the computer wont read an sd card. 2. the computer does not recognise my graphics card. 3.i have an unknown device on my device manager. 4. my "UGX"? has no drivers (and none can be found) 4. my base score used to be 4.0 today i installed another gb of ram and i checked my base score and instead of going up it went down to 1.0 i cant even use aero anymore. the base score is where i realised my graphics card disappeared all that shows up in device manager is standard vga graphics adapter when i have a 512mb graphics card somewhere inside. I dont know what to do can anyone help me please?

As this is a laptop, you are probably going to need to get the graphics card driver from Sony.

Have a look here:

Support for VGN-FZ17G : VAIO FZ : VAIO™ Notebook & Computer : Sony Asia Pacific

How to reinstall display adapter driver in Windows Vista? : Sony Asia Pacific

yes, that is what ive relayed the page to, if you look at the system specs for the laptop chmillman, its a Nvidia 8400M GT Graphics card, and ive pointed the page toward Nvidia as its an Nvidia card :)
system specs are here > http://www.sony-asia.com/product/vgn-fz17g click on system specifications.
but you can also use the graphics card driver update program from here http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/210549/product/vgn-fz17g

From the nVidia website:

This is a reference driver that can be installed on supported NVIDIA GeForce notebook GPUs. However, please note that your notebook original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provides certified drivers for your specific notebook on their website. NVIDIA recommends that you check with your notebook OEM about recommended software updates for your notebook. OEMs may not provide technical support for issues that arise from the use of this driver.

This is why I recommended the person get the original drivers if possible... --ch

This is a problem I run into all the time.
You will most likely need to reinstall your "Chipset drivers"

When you reinstall vista there are drivers that explain to windows how to see your laptops hardware. (for example, sometimes your video card wont be detected correctly without them)

Although vista is very good for detection, without the chipset drivers you will not be able to run everything correctly.
You can find them in the support secton of the sony website.
Also from what I remember, I believe the SD driver is in the chipset drivers or there is a separate driver for it, on one of my Dell's I had to install the Ricoh SD drivers to make everything work well.

Also like the other people said. Go to sony's site and download all of your drivers for your laptop and install them :)
Post back and tell me if this helps.
