how to put laptop display on my old tv

hi i am probably thick but on connecting my laptop to tv via svideo i cant seem to get a picture onto my tv i have a hp laptop been told a "F"key will send pic to tv but dont seeem to is there a settings "area" to do it any help gratefully recieved please bare in mind im not good at this cheers

Hello Plumbershands, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Your notebook may be different than on a Gateway notebook, but after you connect the notebook to the TV, see if pressing the Function + F4 keys will switch the display over to the TV. Sometimes you will need to press it twice, once to share and twice to use only the TV. Pressing a 3rd time returns to the notebook screen. Double check with your notebook's manual on connecting to a TV to see what keys you may need to press instead.

TV Out, setup either in NVidia control panel (Go to WIndows Ctrl Panel--> display --> settings --> advanced ) Or with ATI do the same, but go to output after reaching avanced. Set res to 640.480 & 50Mhz
