That depends on what output your computer has and what input your TV has. There could be a number of connections, HDMI, RGB, DVI, etc. Also dont forget you will probably need connections for audio as well.

if both the tv and computer have hdmi ports, all you need is 1 hdmi cable male to male. this cable also carries the audio signal.
if you need hdmi to dvi, then you will need separate audio cables, and can not achieve 1080p

Would it work using a DVI to HDMI adpator from the PC

Hi throbinson,

This might be all you need depending on what kind of mobo and video card you are using in which audio signal is also carry in the same cable: Amazon.com: Eforcity Black 6FT /2 Meter HDMI Male to DVI Male Cable: Electronics

You may need a few of this to connect to the A/V receiver for surround sound or one to HDTV directly: Amazon.com: Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini Plug/2-RCA Plugs (6ft): Electronics

If you have toslink audio out from you sound card or mobo, you may like this to go to your A/V receiver instead: Amazon.com: Fiber Optical Toslink Digital Audio Optic Interface 6 Foot Cable: Electronics

Hope this helps.
