Help! ATI Driver Problem...

I have a laptop with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. I have been using the 8.570.00 Version Drivers as this is what came standard. However, now the 9.2.... Drivers are available and I wish to install them. I unistalled the old driver through Device Manager, and restarted the computer. I then tried to install 9.2 using the download from ATI's website. This did not work and windows reverted back to the old drivers. Now my Catalyst Control Center is none existant and I have the old driver. I don't know how else to go about fixing this.

I am running Vista x64 with all updates installed.

Any help would be great, and thanks in advance.

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

The ATI>support>version # sub folder should see the setup.exe file there for reinstallling the Catalyst as well as driver. Or you can simply grab the Guru3D - Driver Cleaner available at 64bit and x64 - Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

i second the motion for using the driver cleaner at guru3d. i had the same problem on my laptop (ati x1250). i ran driver cleaner, rebooted, downloaded the current (at the time) catalyst control center and installed. rebooted again and all was well. (i must add, though that mine was the 32bit version.)

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

The next step would be going into the Control Panel>Programs+Features to uninstall any ATI items like the install manager found there. Both the catalyst and drivers alike rely on a software installer for installation, removal, and updates.

If you still don't get anywhere there you would need to use a restore point to go back before you went into the DM since the catalyst is always removed ahead of the drivers when removing both.

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

Try uninstalling the driver through device manager.

Don't restart if asks you to.

Run the cat-uninstaller tool:
http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...ninstaller.zip

Make sure ALL ati folders have been deleted ie C:\ATI ; C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI ; C:\Program Files\ATI

Run driver sweeper /cleaner for a double check and then try installing 9.2

Good luck

This the driver version you are seeing,

Driver Packaging Version 8.582-090203a-075977C-ATI

If so then you have the 9.2. The Catalyst version number is not the same as the driver version number. That Cat number is the release/package number (with 9.2 meaning that they were released in Feb. 2009, and the one next month with be 9.3).

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

When just going to the ATI download page for 7 today this is what was downloaded to a folder on the drive here.

When going to download the latest did you select option #1 or #2 there? Option #2 is drivers only. ATI Catalystâ„¢ Display Driver

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

Night Hawk - I have tried both 1 and 2. I did try to uninstall through Programs/Features, however installation manager won't uninstall. I don't have a restore point at this time.

Stormy - Where would I see that number. When I open Device Manager this is what I see,

thanks again,

Re: Help! ATI Driver Problem...

The problem I run into at the ATI.AMD support site is not seeing any listing for the HD 2400 Mobility as seen for the Desktop Radeon models. Graphics Drivers & Software

For the 32bit version of the Radeon 9.1 update which seems to be what you have there I see this when looking at the properties while in the DM.
