Hello all I am having quite the troubles with using my tv as a monitor my tv is an High def 27 inch RCA tv, It has a VGA port on it and considering my cable that im using is male going into the female output on the graphics card and being male on the other end I had bought a DVI female to VGA male so that I could possibly get it to work.

I put the attatchment I bought into the VGA port on my tv and plugged the male DVI into the female DVI and I switched my input to PC but I get no signal,

Any ideas?

You may need to reboot your PC to detect the tv while the tv was on and conencted.
What model video card are you using?

I know with my Nvidia card, because of a component switch box I am using, I have to change the resolution of my TV a couple times in the Display properties before it will display on my tv.

Is your TV even being detected by the video card? If not, you may not have it on the correct channel or TV input selection on the TV itself. Mine has 3, PC is TV2 I think.

Also, Are you Cloning the image to the TV or independant?

I have a GeForce 8800GS

And I had restarted my PC and still said no signal

I have not tried fiddling around with the resolution yet,

Under Display>Change Resolution, make sure that you set the refresh rate to no more than 30 Hertz.

Is your TV identified within the control panel?

Also as Tepid stated earlier are you selecting the correct input on your TV remote?

I am also having a similar issue and I have not being able to get it to work with Vista x64. I know I did it before under XP and this is what I did.

Go to your Nvidia Control Panel and look for "Setting up dual Monitors", you should be able to see your Primary Monitor and the 2nd monitor (your TV in this case).

If that doesn't work, go to:

your desktop, right click and hit "Personalize", once this window is open get to your Display settings and Make sure you can see the 2nd monitor and make it your primary.

Now, be advise that once you do this, you no longer have access to your primary monitor so all moves with mouse and keyboard must be done by your TV as a monitor and it may be a bit complex if the resolutions are to the extreme. what I mean by this is that my old TV is 480i and my 22" LCD is set at 1680 x 1050 so for me to navigate around my TV is extremely painful (but doable).

Again, I know there should be a correct way to do this and I haven't been able to discover it with Vista and with XP that was just a work-around way to do it.

Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will chime in.

I am aware that some TV/Video card combinations do not like multiple monitors. It is worth trying this with only the TV attached.

Sorry, I guess I forgot to add that I am doing this with the Color Stream (component cables Red/Green/Blue cables) and not direct with VGA/DVI or HDMI cables so I don't believe this is doable for me, perhaps for the Original Poster it will

I have used S-Video instead and I got to set it up but the visuals were so horribal I had to switch back to my regular monitor,

Im guessing I must obtain a HDMI to DVI and then set it up from my Computer monitor and then use my tv as primary and then take down my computer monitor is that correct?

Yes a DVI to HDMI is the best way to connect video upto a TV but that will not support audio. Are you using the PC for audio or a seperate external amp?

audio can be relayed through HDMi, thats why with most soundcards they install HDMI audio device in your playback devices. @ original poster - you need to connect the spdif cable from your soundcard to the GPU to recieve audio through HDMi
