Well thank you guys...I'll see to it
Thanks
His multiplier is definetly working if his speed is changing like that. It means his multipliers are being raised. My cpu-z screenshot only shows the multiplier im using (8) and doesnt show the rest.
About the cache your right its a 3mb cache on a 6mb die. They increased the core frequency and started using 45nm instead of 65nm processors so a cut had to be made somewhere and thats where it was made. I dont know how that will effect temps but im guessing it will lower temps by a few degrees. But yeah it does have a reduced performance than if it was a 6mb cache but then your processor would probably have cost $150 dollars more lol
True! This core can run like mad if the BIOS will let you. I see you are probably correct as he sees the Mhz fluctuate. Anyway, I would dump the 8400 card and get something with some juice if one wants to play full graphics. The 8400 is the bottom of the rung for gaming. Heck, my 9800 I do not set my games at full graphics although I can press them up there quite a bit.

Did you run memtest?
because in all my years repairing pc's lockups ingame have always been atributed to either faulty/overclocked ram or faulty/overclocked GPU ram , a hot core or overheating gpu memory wont cause the card to lock up , the software will simply run the card in 2D mode or you will get graphical abnormalities the most common of which in an overheating card are purple lines , dots or artifacts
Th card is locking up on one particualr frame , why would it do this if it was too hot?
edit ive found some info so i dont have to go into it , ill get it all wrong anyway when you see and understand how a gpu works you'll see what i mean

I think his mem test ran normal. Looking over the 8400 GS, I see a lot on the net about it freezing. I have found a few more posts from I believe is Cool Guy. No answers for him on those I found. The 8400 is not really a 3D gamer card. The shaders are below what the newer games are calling for and most came without a cooling fan. Running games at max is something this card can not handle. It is also a bottleneck within his system. The card is redundant IMO. If it were me(and it is not), a new card and PSU that can run it.
The computer is only as fast as it's slowest part.

You need a new power supply. Your 5 volt readings are at 3.79 when they should be 5 and look at your 12 volt readings as well.
While software readings arent 100% accurate yours are so low that id recommend a new power supply.
Your temp readings are all way too high as well your hard drive is at 52c. Cpu cores are near 60c etc For your SYSTIN and AUXTIN temps they are reading them wrong as those two dont always come back accurate as they are difficult for software to read.
I recommend a new power supply and some extra fans for your case.
