That PSU will be fine.

Personally I wouldn't use PSU calculators as I don't find them all that accurate, as the times I've gone off what they've told me, the PSU I had wasn't enough even though it should have been.

@ everlong18,

I have to disagree with you about power supply calculators. As you've noted they give an estimate of the overall power requirement needed to run a given system. However, if the information given to make the calculations is wrong or incomplete, then you get inaccurate results.

Personally, I've found them to be pretty accurate in doing what they're designed to do - give an estimate of overall system power requirements. A few of them are pretty much standard across the board and are constantly updated (ATI's new 4890 is now included in the calculator)

Here's 3 examples - Antec Power Supply Calculator, Thermaltake Power Supply Calculator or eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5

Just my counterpoint :)

There might be others that are more accurate. The only one I've tried is the eXtreme one and on the two times I used it and went along with what it said, the PSU had problems with the system.

I'd say if you do use these, then just allow quite a bit of headroom with the PSU you buy :)

I'd say the headroom should be around 150 watts which allows for upgrades :)

Back when I was trying to run my ECS 8800GT 512mb + the new EVGA GTX260 768mb cards, the Extreme PSU Calculator told me that 480w was more than enough to handle both cards + whatever other devices I had hooked on (usb devices, etc, etc.)

At the time I was using a Thermaltake ToughPower 600W PSU and I was not able to move both cards, it was one or the other but not both. Ever since that Happened, I have been skeptical about using that particular PSU calculator. I will check the other links signus posted as I am always 2nd guessing myself when it comes to PSUs.

LOL! thanks for all the input guys. I am probably going to order it all this afternoon or tonight. I don't want to waste money on the purchase or to the local power company..... so if you guys think I should or if it would be sufficient, Ill drop it to 800 watts or so.

Like I said it has been a while and I am just getting back into this. I don't know how much overclocking I'll do on air cooled only but I might try some. I am going to get this board, it is not a Classified but I kinda always thought it was good to match up mobo and gpu boards.

If you plan on ever going 3-way SLI, then the higher watts the better.

For my current setup, 1000w is a massive overkill - but it should run very efficiently and for future upgrades, I'm not going to have to worry about whatever I throw at it.

It doesn't hurt that I also like overkill ;)
