Re: who's running 2 4870x2 in crossfire

The reason i went to ATI was because i had two BFG 8800 Ultra's in SLI and had nothing but trouble with them, a lot like your having at the moment, that was on Vista ultimate x64 too, i think it's a mixture of Board/Card/Mem/CPU, put the wrong part in and thats it, problem is, whats the wrong part ?, they should all be compatible with each other, you could try Vista ultimate x64, but there is no guarantee it will be any better, anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

What PSU are you using droplet?

Also have you tested each card by itself?

Re: who's running 2 4870x2 in crossfire

I have a Corsair HX1000 modular. I'm now trying with Vista Ultimate x64 and things are worse. System is very unstable. The installation of the drivers + CCC was fine but everytime I try to run 3DMark or a game the PC freezes with a blank screen.

Try running Memtest over night, you may have Memory issues, also what are your temps like, im guessing you have done all this but it's all i can think of at the moment.

Re: who's running 2 4870x2 in crossfire

I did. I running for ~22 hrs. No leaks or errors found. I did this more than a month ago when I got extra 4GB. Everything was working fine before I got the new cards.
Anyway, now I managed to make the work under Vista Ultimate x32 with latest drivers/CCC. But, this means that because the drivers for x64 platforms DON'T work as they should I'm stuck with a x32 systems and 4GB instead of 8Gb. Where should I stick the extra 4GB? don't answer..I know...
I'm sorry but I find this unacceptable from ATI part. If they provide drivers for Vista x64 and even Windows 7 they should test them more because they are definitely not stable under x64.

I will keep testing the cards. So far I managed to run 3DMark without freezes or BSOD. I need to try some games now. Keep you posted.

Conclusion: ATI drivers/CCC under x64 systems with crossfire enabled ARE NOT STABLE (some ppl claim they have managed to make them run...others like me can't)

thanks for the support

I can certainly understand your frustration mate.

But I'm another one running crossfire under both Vistax64 and 7 x64 and have no problems. I've run both 4850 CF and 4890 CF with no dramas, but I haven't tried quadfire.

I have the same PSU. How have you connected the cards? ie the two hard wired 8pin+6pin into card A and the two modular cables into the V1 rail for card B. You aren't mixing the rails by any chance?

How do you have your crossfire bridge attached?

(sorry for the basic questions, but it never hurts to eliminate the simple stuff)

Hi droplet,

Sorry to hear you're having issues under Vista x64. Perhaps you can have a look here to see if you can find a solution to your problem - CATALYST Drivers - Rage3D Discussion Area. Alot of those guys there run a Vista x64 crossfire setup without issue so... ???

I myself have never had an issue with ATI/CCC drivers under Vista x64 myself, but I also don't run a crossfire setup.

At any rate give the site a try; very good info.

Good luck.

Hi smarteyeball,

I doubt it's a power supply problem (mixing rails) because he's able to run in 32-bit mode, but not 64-bit, which does seem to be a driver issue. The question is why???
