use TV as monitor

I just bought a HDMI cable to use tv as my monitor. I plugged it in correctly at the pc and on the TV but nothing is coming up. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Phil

Re: use TV as monitor

Take a look in your TV settings menu. Somewhere in there you will find an input selector. Look for HDMI and select it as the input. My Samsung has an HDMI shortcut on the remote.

Re: use TV as monitor

The tv is already on HDMI. Thats how my comcast box connects. I disconnected the comcast HDMI cable and plugged in the one connected to the computer and nothing.

Are the display settings on your PC set to match your television
in terms of screen resolution and refresh rate?

Re: use TV as monitor

if the graphics card is onboard, check the BIOS settings and see if it can be enabled/disabled, otherwise use the app that comes with the graphics card to detect the TV, NVidia control Panel, or ATI Catalyst, apparently some cards need to be forced to rigorously search for the HDMI monitor.
