Want to upgrade GPU

Currently I'm running a Nvidia 9800gt, I would like to upgrade to one of Nvidia's new cards, I have no idea if my motherboard would support one of the newer cards, because I received my computer from Dell/QVC. Is there anyway short of opening up my computer that I can find out if my mb will support a newer card.

yes and yes, your PSU is 425watts, and you have a PCI-E x16(2.0) slot so the only restrictions i can possibly see is maybe the dimensions.

Re: Want to upgrade GPU

Sorry I forgot to mention the GPU I wanted to upgrade to I was thinking a 285,

I just looked into my manual it says my computer has
1 PCI-E x1
1 PCI-E x16
1 PCI-E x4 (which according the the manal is a x8 configured as an x4)

Re: Want to upgrade GPU

Get an 850W PSU and a GTX 295 for maximum futureproofing. Short step up from a 285.

Re: Want to upgrade GPU

Sorry, I just see it as a waste of money as the 9800GT will play all of the latest games extremely well but, if burning money is the latest craze, well... Do it, Do it!

Not knowing the board, PSU (extremely important), Case & cooling puts me off a little bit and unless you are looking to custom built a rig in the immediate future (more so with the horror stories about Dell having a propietary PSU so you can't upgrade them rumor), why upgrade your GPU only? The little I have learn about computers is that you can't just upgrade 1 thing, this is always a balancing act of 2 forces; Question is... which ones
