hey there badmouth. could you send me the instructions on how to remove atikmdag.i read your post today. i bought a new graphics card ati hd 3870 512 ddr4/256 bits from sapphire and man...that atikmdag kills me. i looked over tons of forums and tried all kinds of crap from disabeling aero on vista to uninstalling and reistalling drivers and much more. still no result. then i found your post and it seems the most believeble solution.but unfortunatelly your instructions on rapidshare are no longer available. my system is this

intel core2duo 6300
2x1gb ram geil ultra 800
1x gb ram kingston hyper x (also 800 ofc )
motherboard asus p5k
power supply 550 watts
video ATI HD 3870 512ddr4 / 256 bitts 2xdvi

i would so appreciate an answer. im super desperate.

Thank you

heh found the problem. but not intentionally. i had just bought a new hdd. so i installed it but after booting up i noticed that i couldn't see it in win. so i rebooted got in bios and to my surprise... it didn't see any hard drives anymore. only the dvd-rw. so i tried everything humanly possible. i staied up till 5 in the morning trying...nothing. i thought it might be the motherboard. so the next day i went to my shop to test it. then i realised it was the power sourse. i changed it so now everything works wonderfully. thank god!. heh well... till next time :D thanks anyways guys.

Oh great...it was all working fine for a week. yesterday. i installed resident evil 5. it worked perfectly...i played for hours. till yesterday. it happened just like before... the game froze for a few seconds then the error (though it didn't say anything about atikmdag ...just the display driver has stopped working and has recovered) and the game crashed.don't know what had happened. i have windows 7 now. and it installed some updates...i'm thinking that might be the reason...though i don't know what to say anymore...i'm so so mad!!! i mean come on. it's been a long time ppl have had this error. and nobody has come up with a solution. what are those guys at ati/amd and nvidia do all day? you never saw this happening a few years ago...even if we didn't have such nice graphics...anybody if you find a solution...please let me know your thoughts..thanks. i'm just really really frustrated!!

This problem has plagued ATI and Nvidea users for a while now with no fix. Some people have switched back from Windows 64 bit to Windows XP 32 bit and it's solved the problem for them. If that's the case, it's a windows problem and they need to get off their butt and fix it. It's been over 2 years now with the same issues. I built a new system last year so be set for games for a while. This error has kept me from playing ANY game without this problem. I'm about to switch back to win XP. Windows 7 users are getting the same glitch.
