Monitor shuts off

Dell Inspiron/lg flat screen monitor with Vista Home 64 bit
After using the computer for the morning, the monitor decides to shut off. The computer is still on and I can use the off on button to get it back on but for a very short period of time only, There is no sound, no flicker or anything else that would signal to one that this is going to occur.
When I do the on off button the screen states something about analog input and lets me finish up a task if it is just a few minutes. I have checked drivers and everything Ican hink of for settings that might have become reset accidently. I have the pd version of AVG and it scans daily. There have been no viruses detected.
I keep things cleaned everyday.

Does anyone have a magical EASY solution for me ???

Re: Monitor shuts off

sounds like a graphic card problem to me rather than the screen. your desktop has a graphic card? or u running the built-in from your motherboard?

if u have a graphic card, try removing the card and plug into your motherboard's on board VGA port if there is.

it just suddenly stop working like u said? or u might have done something?

Re: Monitor shuts off

Should I run the Everest program to furnish you with the info you need ? This is an out of the box system from the store (Staples) and I would be ridiculous if I pretended to know about the graphic card you are referring to and that is why I am wondering if the Everest info would be helpful.
Things worked smoothly for the first few months and it just suddenly began doing this. I keep updates done on a routine basis and even wondered if that could be a factor. The reason I wondered about that is that with the old comp. I had some major challenges with internet connections after a Microsoft update.
thank you for looking at my challenge.

Re: Monitor shuts off

u dun have to tell me your graphic card brand and model.

does your computer have an alternate output? rather than the graphic card? like from the motherboard? trying outputing from there and see how.

could also be the power problem like what theog had mention.

Re: Monitor shuts off

Well, I scanned thru the power options tutorial and it appears to be repairing the opposite problems- they had cops that did not go to sleep and mine goes to sleep in the middle of the day and it is not when a screensaver needs to come on - I am working and can be in accounting program or email or office program. The challenge is no respector of what is happening.
Let me know if I missed something in the tutorial that would apply to my mess.
