    Re: Nvidia in Crisis

This is an interesting shift for NVIDIA. This, combined with the Fermi announcement (which is basically aimed at the scientific market, and not gamers) seems to indicate that things are changing at NVIDIA. While NVIDIA is claiming that the story on the SemiAccuratethat the company is shelving the GTX 260, GTX 275, and GTX 285 and possibly the GTX 295 is “patently untrue,” there can be little doubt that things are changing at NVIDIA.
End of the line for NVIDIA chipsets, and that's official | Hardware 2.0 | ZDNet.com

The 275 can't have gone EOL 2 weeks after that as EVGA released a bunch of new 275 cards end of October. And that does seem to be the only website mentioning that they are actually sacking them cards off...the only thing I knew they were actually stopping were nForce chipsets, so hopefully it isn't all that bad.

    Re: Nvidia in Crisis

The doom and gloom merchants have been saying that NVidia is on the skids since Late 2007/early 2008, i suppose if you keep saying it for long enough, then it will, eventually happen.
I'm sure we will be hearing more on this in 2010.
BTW, did you see the name of the web site ?.
I'm wondering if the story is "SemiAccurate"

SemiAccurate :: Nvidia kills GTX285, GTX275, GTX260, abandons the mid and high end market

    Re: Nvidia in Crisis

Normally Charlie is a biased FUD merchant, but it appears there actually may be a grain of truth to it.

However, nvidia aren't out of the game yet. But there will be no Fermi based GPU's released this year. Predictions are anywhere from March up to May.

In other news, the TSMC teething trouble with the new 40nm fabrication process is slowly being sorted and the current shortage of 58xx series ATI cards is expected to lift in December. The downside is that prices aren't going to come down anytime soon

I was kicking myself when I bought my 4890's so close to the 58xx release, but after hearing of all the troubles - I'm glad that I did

and as far as the new Nvidia cards..... they've waited a little long... by the time they finally get them out ATI may have a even better card then they will be in trouble......
