so im using vista and i have the nvidia gforce 8500 installed in my computer i have installed all the drivers and it still wont register my card it is stuck on the vga standard and dosent give me the option to switch i have restarted my computer and uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them but nothing seems to work please help.

uninstall the card and then boot to safemode, run a driver cleaner (Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com) then reboot and reinstall the driver package from the maker of the card also at the same time its worth updating microsoft directx,

make sure while reinstalling you have turned off any antivirus software and maybe vistas user account control if needed.
if the card still will not display any higher resolutions try to borrow/install another card to see if your one is faulty.
