New to graphics cards

I've been looking to upgrade my graphics card so I can get a decent FPS going when I play any games or whatnot, but I have no idea which card would be a good replacement.

I currently have a run of the mill Dell Inspiron 530s and unfortunately, it only has space for a low profile card, which from what I understand limits my options by a lot.

It has a 3gb ram and a 250watt powersupply. The processor it has is a Pentium Dual core @ 2.20 GHz.

I would appreciate it if you guys could recommend me a decent low profile, x16 pci-express card that is below $100 and won't be bogged down by my low power supply.

Hi welcome to the forum.
As you have double posted and are in the games section also.
Check out the Gaming Rigs Threade, macandy.
That should, with the varios links and suggestions, maybe answer you question.
You are going to be limited with a 32 bit for ram.
New games coming out now are asking for more & more power.

You will not get a gpu to run on a 250W psu.

Its not even really the 300W, it's the:
Minimum of a 300 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12
Volt current rating of 22 Amps.)

You need to post what your system actually is, and since you wat a low profile, you morre than likely can't get a new psu.

Thank you guys for the suggestions so far!

The main thing I am concerned about is my power supply. I have been searching, but apparently my Dell Inspiron 530slim case is kind of special in that normal PSU's won't do the trick and I'll have to use an external PSU.

I am thinking of buying a new case so I won't need to worry about getting a lowprofile card or getting some sort of special PSU. If I do buy a new tower, would it be okay to just migrate everything to the new one, or would I need to do something special?

edit: The motherboard is also mATX if that matters

Thanks for your advice Lottiemansion!! I been looking everywhere for one of these for my dell slim computer and order one about a month ago. I spoke to the seller and he gave me a link 400W TFX Replacement Dell Power Supply for Model: XW605 (0XW605), YX300 (0YX300) since I live in the U.S. :) The link you provided is good for UK resident. Thanks again!
