Solved vga adapter

Hi new to the forums and I need a little help.. okay maybe a lot of help :p. I get an error message when I start my computer. The gist of the error is "driver not compatible for the vga adapter" When I go under device manager the only thing I see with an error is Intel Q35 Express Chipset Family. Does anyone know how to fix this? I recently installed another graphics card & hard drive on the system.

Looking at your system specs, you also have the intel onboard vga adaptor. You may need to reinstall the driver.

When you say you installed a hard drive, was it just as a storage drive? or for your vista?

I took out my old hard drive because it didn't have enough space. I added a 250gb hard drive in it's place.

update- I downloaded a driver but I still get this message :(Untitled.jpg

Hi karenkareena,

In addition to what Patonb said, please provide the following information:

1. Is the monitor connected to the new Graphics card or to an on-board card?
2. Are the drivers installed for the new Graphics card on the computer?

For any clarifications feel free to contact me.

1. The monitor is connected to the geforce graphics card I installed. I removed the old graphic card that came with the computer because I couldn't play games with it.
2.Yes the drivers for the new card are installed and it's not showing any errors.

Happy Thanksgiving and ty everyone for helping me!

I tried everything you suggested above but it did not work for me. I removed the geforce graphics card and put back the original standard vga card and everything works fine. I can't play games but I think the geforce graphics card was not compatible with my computer?

Hi karenkareena,

If the card was not compatible with the computer then the drivers wouldn’t be installed.

Please restart the computer and tap F2 key at Dell Logo to enter the BIOS. Use up/down arrow keys to go to system Video and press enter.

Change the settings to Onboard/Card, if it is not on Onboard/Card. Save changes and exit set-up and check if it works now.

Please post the results.

Hi karenkareena,

In case if the Chipset drivers are not present in the computer then Sm Bus controller would visible under Other devices. Please install the three Chipset drivers, and check if it works. Please refer to the below mentioned link for Chipset driver:
Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

The driver for PCI Serial Port mentioned below: Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

The driver for PCI Simple Communications Controller mentioned below: Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

To let you know, you really didn't have an issue originally. The error/issue was for the on board gpu, which wasn't even being used.

What video card do you have in right now?

I just put the geforce 5200 graphics card back in. I'm getting the original error message again. Plus when I stream movies on netflix the audio and video is choppy. I think the geforce card is not compatible or something :/

Well the 5200 isn't a great card, but it should stream.

In device manager, is the NVidia card shown with any error/warnings?

Personally, I would just disable the intel adapter as you are not usng it.
