Can't get 9800 Pro to configure in Vista 32-bit

Anybody trying to configure an older videocard? I've got an ATI 9800 Pro in my Windows Vista beta 2 (32-bit on Athlon XP 2500+), and the beta drivers I downloaded from ATI's site don't work. I've downloaded both the videocard drivers and the whole package, but neither will properly configure after I reboot. Before I reboot I can get the driver to install successfully - but it's back to the yellow ! message for "Radeon 9800 PRO".

Suggestions?

same problem

hi, i got the exact same problem as you. aka i also havea 2500+ and a agp 9800 pro. im trying to figure outa solution rihgt now. so far i;ve posted a ticket on the ATI site. And recently i scoured a forum and a guy said he got his 9800 to work by manually installing the .Inf file form the latest XP driver package. now i dont know how to do that. i would give it a shot if i knew though. any help from anyone would be much appreciated.:)

sherdepunjab: I ended up replacing that 9800 Pro with an AGP 7800 GS. This card installed nicely and has been running fine. I downloaded the RC1 but haven't installed it. I just have too many projects and other things to worry about right now.

If I were you, I would go back to that other guys posting and send him a PM asking for the procedure to get the INF file installed. Maybe you need to do the normal install, and then go find the INF file and place it where it really belongs. I don't know the procedure, otherwise I would tell you.

Good luck. I'm keeping my 9800 Pro as a spare right now. I have about 8 machines running, so it's good to have a spare. Check out my site (in my signature) for pictures.

You just have to download ATI's Vista drivers and use a modified INF in the installation to force the installer to recognize your graphics card. I had my old X600 PRO working fine a few months ago but bought a new laptop with a Go 7600 which caused a lot of stress to find the drivers for Windows XP let alone Vista.

I <3 the Printers from your sig.
