Need for true P2P

It is clear that Foldershare is not an option anymore. How can one
trust his work to a system that had a 5 days outage?

The reason is simple: FS is not a P2P system, but a server-based
distributed application. It is difficult to develop a working copy of
FS without a server, due to the ubiquitous firewalls and the need for
every user to discover his computers and libraries without typing
anything..

This is the main point of FS. A server allow peers to skip firewalls
and keeps the list of libraries. It is a good architecture for a
enterprise wide system, but it does not scale. If FS is to be used by
every computer in Internet, how big should be the servers farms? And
the network? Probable Google sized.

MS must release a FS server. I imagine that a good business solution
would be to keep FS free and sell servers.

MS must also realize this is business. Users have a hate/love
relationship with MS, and FS was just making it get better, until this
great fiasco. If you can´t do something, you shouldn´t do it. If the
problem is money, you should charge for it. I would pay until two
weeks ago. Now, have to examine competition.

It is a pity, but if MS can work for free, it shouldn´t. I were
depending on it and now...

RE: Need for true P2P

if you really want to find some indepent solution it is really hard to find
something.
i was testing a few solution and now i am using the free version of
powerfolder.
it is java based and you can use it for 10 GB for free and you need no
server at all (pure peer to peer) so you only need to thrust yourself to
keep your sync going. For me its enough and its working on all plattforms and
i have only small office files. it is working with bigger stuff also but for
really big stuff you need a pro version of it. so you can try it until MS
creates something like that or buys it
