| | A few suggestions on Foldershare's future GUI As the developer metioned they will roll out new client in the following months, I would like to provide a few cents here: 1. Provide users with more flexibity to control (e.g., pause/resume a sync, set the priority, unidirection/mirror, schedule etc). 2. Keep the nice feature of letting users know what's going on during the sync process - Which file(s) are synced now? 3. A better GUI but still keep it small and simple. I hate MS's efforts to integrate a lot of applications together make the system bulky 4. Better handling of conflicts. If FS is disconnected and two versions of a file are changed in two machines at the same time, both two files will be generated on two machines. This is done silently! |

| | RE: A few suggestions on Foldershare's future GUI This is a classic case of asking for two things that are naturally opposed to one another. You list a whole lot of functionality and features and screens you'd like added, but then say "but keep it simple and not bulky". One or the other direction is possible, but not both. My vote would be something closer to Google Talk than MSN/Live Messenger. I think we can all agree that Messenger went a bit too far in the features department. I'd love some more features and control, but since I install Foldershare on my mom's, dad's, girlfriend's computer I need it to remain hands off, automatic and silent. Personally I'd be happy if they just brought back the pro version with the partial file change support. | | RE: A few suggestions on Foldershare's future GUI Thanks for your comments. I may made confusions in the previous post. The client of current FS is just TOO simple and not controlability. When I say "keept it simple", it does not mean no more new functions. The new features I suggested are trivial. I believe you can achieve them but not adding much codes. One style of MS products I don't like is that they always try to integrate, making the programs huge and vulnerable to bugs. I hope FS will not become a component of Office suites (They already have a similar tool in Office 2007 called "Groove"). | | RE: A few suggestions on Foldershare's future GUI heres an idea... how about an option for foldershare to work. by default its the current quiet opepration of foldershare, and theres also an advanced option to be able to do those that you commented on...? | | Re: A few suggestions on Foldershare's future GUI More than anything, I'd like FS to be smarter when handling version conflicts... When two people have the same Excel file open, I'd prefer a better explanation and options than "retry or quit". |
