| | Foldershare and Picasa Ok - so I wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue and if they may have a solution. First off, I didn't always have this problem but at some point it started. Given Foldershare hasn't changed in quite some time, I expect it is probably Picasa but getting answers out of them is probably harder they getting answers here. Here is my issue/scenario. I sync My Pictures folder from one machine to another. I typically run Picasa on Machine A and import new pictures on Machine A - hoping to sync those pictures to my other machine (don't anyone ever risk losing their pictures!!! your significant other will kill you if you do!!). Recently though with no error message from Picasa, the import completes but Picasa doesn't see the new pictures. I found that Picasa first dumps them in a hidden "temp" directory in the Pictures folder and then once done, renames the folder and unhides. Unfortunately though, it is no longer renaming and unhiding the folder (Fortunately, I am able to rename and unhide the folder manually). Here is the rub with Foldershare. If I shutdown foldershare, everything imports fine. If it's running though, 100% of the time, it does not do the rename and unhide. So, anyone think they can help me? Driving me nuts that the wife can't import pictures without help anymore. If others are doing the same, would love to hear from them so I might try other things. BTW - I have completely uninstalled Picasa and reinstalled to no avail. |

If you look in your Pictures folders, you'll see many picasa.ini files that are now visible rather than being hidden. I think when FolderShare touches the hidden temp directory, it strips the hidden attribute, and when that happens Picasa gets confused. There is no fix I can think of, only a change in your import process that involves importing to the desktop, then dragging the folder over to the Pictures folder manually. It sucks, yes, but fundamentally you're not going to see Google change Picasa to accommodate Foldershare, nor Foldershare to accommodate Picasa's somewhat bizarre method of doing things. | | RE: Foldershare and Picasa My experience is that Picasa and My Pictures are tied together but still different. That's a positive, so that your original photos remain in My Pictures, untouched, while changes can be made in Picasa. From Picasa Help "Any edits you make to photos in Picasa are not saved to the original file on disk until you click the "Save Changes" button in the album header. Saving your changes this way will overwrite the original file, while retaining a backup in a new "Originals" folder. Click the "Undo Save" button to revert a file to the backed up version." On PC B, you might want to set up Picasa and have it monitor the folder that you are synching your photos to (My Pictures to My Pictures or My Pictures to Other). Then when new ones are copied into there, they will automatically be detected by Picasa and added. Otherwise you need to Import them again on PC B to see them.
