10000 Files

Will this limitation be upped? With what I think is a modest music library
on my media center (about 250 albums) and because of all the art work that
media center puts on it I'm over the 10000 limit. Would really like to see
this at least doubled if not more.

The 10,000 file limit is only per library and you are allowed up to 10 of
those per user (i.e. email address). So if you divide your collection
into groups of 10,000 you can synchronise up to 100,000 files which seems
way more than your need for just double 10,000. You can even use multiple
email addresses if the 100,000 limit ever causes you a practical issue,
but that becomes messier, say using multiple Windows user names each
having different FS installations.

Yeah, but I'm quite sure he just wants to synchronize his My Music folder -
and dividing that up into multiple sub-folders isn't a very practical
solution (though it's really the only one in this instance).

The unfortunate reality is that FolderShare isn't as useful as it could be
for those who are stuck with the 10,000 file limit. I'm VERY thankful they
didn't revert my account when the buy-out happened...

Exactly. I'm in the same boat. I shouldn't have to reorganize my music
collection based on Foldershare's restrictions.

I don't understand why there's a limit in the first place. The software is
free, why have # of files and # of library restrictions (not to mention the 2
gig file size restriction) without offering a paid version that doesn't have
those restrictions?

Is there a product out there like Foldershare that doesn't have these
restrictions?

Agreed. And I strongly suspect the FolderShare team wouldn't disagree with
you. ;-)

This goes back to when it was created and run by Byte Taxi, before Microsoft
bought them - they had a paid option. FolderShare sat on ice for a while,
completely unchanged, and it's only fairly recently that things have started
to change - just not in ways that we can see yet.

Not that I'm aware of - at least, nothing that works as well as FolderShare.

Re: 10000 Files

A program I use that is offered for free is SyncBack... I think it allows you
to synchronize an unlimited amount of files, as well as any number of
profiles to do that. The downside is that it's a semi-manual/semi-automatic
program: that is, you can run profiles whenever you want, and/or schedule
times where the profile will run. This also allows you to synchronize FTP
servers and over the local network.

It is fairly customizable though compared with Foldershare. You can filter
out folders and/or files.. (ie, synchronizing the My Music folder, you can
set it up so that only *.mp3, *.wma, *.aac, etc files are transferred to
another folder).

BeInSync does the same thing, and works pretty much the same way as
FolderShare, the 'paid' version has no file limitations...
