| | Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete Folks, It looks like a lot of you are wondering how to recover all those files sent to trash. This is a pretty awful bug.... For me, the workaround has been surprisingly simple: when I restarted FS, it will simply recovered my files from another machine. So, in some way, I had nothing to do!!!! I might not work for everyone... Maybe the recovery from the other machine happened because the other machine was different from the one where the deletion was triggered. In my case, the machine with deletion was running XP in French, but the other machine was running XP in English. Could that make that the second machine was immune, and FS nicely restored everything? In any case, I had another case of crazy deletion starting. I shut down FS, and restarted... and voilÃ* that the files were coming back. Since yesterday afternoon, the deletion did not occur anymore. Even if that fix worked for me, I feel MS should do something very quickly. This is a major bug. The fact that the files are not actually lost, but scrambled in a flat 10 000 file collection is nearly as dramatic as a file lost, which in most development environment should trigger a "show-stopper" alarm!!!! Please, MS, do react, we are nearly loosing our data here! |

For all of the latest details, please refer to my latest post "Update on issue with files moving to FolderShare Trash" More updates coming soon. thx FS Team "Fabrice" wrote: Quote: > Folks, > > It looks like a lot of you are wondering how to recover all those files sent > to trash. | | RE: Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete I found there were *.p2p (placeholder) files were in place of the deleted ones. The best solution for me to was to do a search of all *.p2p files on my harddrive (or drives) and check any filenames the list should not have been deleted. I found them in the Foldershare Trash and manually moved them into the same folder as the p2p file. Then the p2p file disapeared and all seems well. | | RE: Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete That is a great way to easily discover which files got moved to your trash accidently. Note: This only works for folders to which you have setup automatic synchronization. Since if you had a folder that was setup for manual sync, you wouldn't be able to know which files should be a .p2p stub since you have not requested them vs. ones that are a .p2p stub since they moved to the FolderShare trash. -m "Andrew Hurley" wrote: Quote: > I found there were *.p2p (placeholder) files were in place of the deleted > ones. | | RE: Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete Any chance we can get an "undo" or "revert" function in foldershare. My whole mp3 collection was wiped to the trash folder because of this bug, and it has not been the first time foldershare has accidentally deleted files from my folders. Althought this is definitely the worst case so far. | | RE: Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete Norm, I had the same thing happen, but iTunes fixed it pretty decently. 1- I turned on iTunes "Keep Files Organized" option 2- I moved all my files from the trash into the "itunes music" folder 3- I Told iTunes to import music from that Folder It then got the information from the TAGS and placed them all in the correct folder. | | RE: Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete Great sugggestion. A couple of other notes. - You should not see any more deletions. - The propagation of this stopped on Thursday. Additionally we are seeing if we can generate some kind of script to help users recover. We're not sure if this is possible yet, but we are working on some possible solutions. -m "PauGarDe" wrote: Quote: > Norm, > > I had the same thing happen, but iTunes fixed it pretty decently. > > 1- I turned on iTunes "Keep Files Organized" option > 2- I moved all my files from the trash into the "itunes music" folder > 3- I Told iTunes to import music from that Folder > > It then got the information from the TAGS and placed them all in the correct > folder. > > Paul. > > "norm" wrote: > Quote: > > Any chance we can get an "undo" or "revert" function in foldershare. | | RE: Solution to Deal with the weird character triggered delete Please, Please... publish a script which will recover my hundreds of moved files. I had hundreds of files in dozens of folders and my time is limited ;-) Thanks for your help.
