| | Excluded files I've just discoverd FolderShare and have been trying to get to grips with it over last few days. On synching Home PC and Work PC, I find that Foldershare libraries register fewer files per library than on the computers themselves. Much digging revealed these were mainly redundant files (orphaned temporary files, e.g. ~.doc, and 'thumbs.db' ), but also all files/folders with names in unicode (in this case, Farsi) and "*.ink" files, i.e. all shortcuts. This final omission is an issue which is very important to me, as my directories are structured with lots of file and folder shortcuts. I haven't seen this problem aired before in this group. Is it common knowledge? Is there a workaround? Thanks |

| | RE: Excluded files Could you make a list of files that you notice wont get synched? like... *.db *.lnk *.ink ~.doc *ÅØÆ€*.unicode You caught my interest with this post... and if this is so and the facts that several major bugs just occured... then we should make lists about bugs and errors... |

| | RE: Excluded files Hi there Apologies for delay in replying - have been away. Your list seems to reflect what I found to date, i.e. those files on my Home computer which are missing on my Work computer: *.db [these were all in fact "thumbs.db"] *.ink [shortcuts] ~.doc [orphaned temporary Word files] *ÅØÆ€*.unicode [Farsi, in our case] I've read about Unicode problems elsewhere on this forum. I don't think anyone should be concerned about *.db or ~.doc files. But the failure to synch shortcuts seems a major issue. It would be useful if others could use Explorer to count the number of files in synched folders, and examine which files account for the discrepancy. I used TreeSize on both computers (enables you to count by sub-directory and file extension) to 'drill down' into each directory until I found the missing files, and identified which types they all were. Thanks! |
