| | Folder Share on Windows Home Server ? I have a small company of four folks, and we use FolderShare (after some pretty horrendous incompatibility issues with Be In Sync) to keep our project documents shared and organized. The challenge is that we travel, and FolderShare will only sync when the others are live on line ie if I create a file in Tokyo, drag it to the library, then I get on a plane, then my colleagues switches on their computer - they won't see the file as our computers weren't on at the same time. So the simply solution seems to be to have a machine running constantly with FolderShare, so we can make sure there is always one machine (at least) that is up. It seems to be an obvious candidate for this is the HP Home Server, but I've poked all over the website and there is no information as to whether I can load FolderShare on the Windows Server OS. We are all running Vista, so I guess I could just run vista on the server - but that seems non-ideal, right?? So can someone tell me: a) will I be able to run FolderShare on an HP Home Server with Windows Home Server OS ? b) will I have issues syncing between Vista machines and a Windows Home Server machine? - I've heard of compatibility issues between XP and Vista and don't want to run into the same issue. c) Anything else I should look out for - or is there a better solution?? Thanks for all your help! Zip |

| | RE: Folder Share on Windows Home Server ? I'm going to try this exact install in the next couple of days - I'll let you know how it goes. Because it's an always-on wired connection, this seems to be a good use for WHS. It's Server 2003 at the core, so it should work ok. FolderShare when WHS was still in beta, and I had a problem with files that were synced being marked as read only...which causes a lot of problems. Jason Dunn www.digitalhomethoughts.com |

| | RE: Folder Share on Windows Home Server ? Awesome Tom! Good luck with that, looking forward to hearing your report. I'm not a tech guy by any means, just the least afraid of technology of the four so I get volunteered for a bunch of stuff that is way over my head. Its not my day job by any means, although an essential function. So feel free to break it down in the simplest of terms - I really appreciate whatever pointers you can give. | | RE: Folder Share on Windows Home Server ? Thanks for the nudge. I still haven't tried this yet - and was hoping to hear from the others. Let me know if you find anything.
