| | Can a folder be renamed? Is there a way to change the name of a folder that is a copy of a library? If I simply rename a folder then FS considers it has been deleted from the library. And if I re-add it I presume all the files will be downloaded from other library members and also the existing files will be renamed to local names that will then be uploaded as duplicates. Can anyone suggest a method of renaming a folder while keeping its existing copies of files accepted by FS to being synced with the library? I am just talking about renaming the root directory of a library and not a subsidiary folder which I assume will be handled by FS like a renamed file. Tony |

There's an initial flurry of activity while it scans all the files -- during this time it will try to download files fruitlessly -- but it seems to work it out OK in the end. I last did this with a folder that's almost 4GB. Only if you change anything while the folder is disconnected should you get any renamed copies. richi. www.richi.co.uk |

I tried that and still can't figure what happened. First there was local activity and around 5% of the files were displayed by the FS web site as synched as 121/2750. Then there was a prompt about permitting overwriting of R/O files which I accepted. Then a whole bunch of files were transferred, but I believe far fewer than thousands of 3GB of library. And now all is quiet and apparently happily synched. As I simply renamed and then added back the renamed folder there is no question of the library changing at any time in the procedure. Thanks for the advice and I believe that was very much quicker than starting with an empty folder even if not quite as transfer-free as you had experienced. Tony |
