| | Windows Home Server Is there a way in which Foldershare can be installed properly on Windows Home Server machines? I can install it, but only refer to hard drive locations, not to network shares - and the WHS documentation makes clear that referring to hard drive locations is not wise, as it can lead to file corruption. If there is anyway to do this, it would be really helpful, effectively completing the setup I desire. |

FolderShare on my WHS because it's already unstable enough as it is <sigh> Jason Dunn www.digitalhomethoughts.com |

| | RE: Windows Home Server My understanding of the risk of writing directly to the HD is that files may not be migrated across hard drives properly. Since I have a single drive in my WHS storage pool, that really doesn't bother me. ;-) FolderShare would appear to be a safer way to use WHS, since it deletes and recreates the file each time it changes -- the corruption issue is caused by changing a file in-place. (Of course, single-drive systems are also immune to the corruption issue.) I installed FolderShare as Administrator, changed the Preferences to NOT start when I log in, then used the Server 2003 Resource Kit to have FolderShare run as a service. It broke briefly when I upgraded to the new version, because the new version installs the .exe to a different path -- deleting and recreating the service using the new path seems to bring everything back.
