Vista - Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

I am an old FolderShare paid user from before the merger with MS, and have
happily used the program for the past several years. I have a mix of PCs, one
of which is a Windows 2000 PC. It was always sync-able in the past. I see
that Windows XP (built from the same core as Win2000) installs, as does my
Vista Ultimate. But Windows 2000 is left in the cold.

I cannot see that there is any feature change necessitating removing Win2000
support from the product.

I also have an IOmega backup drive (initially what drew me to FolderShare)
and have no idea how to upgrade its client since I cannot run apps from it
directly.

Although to be honest, none of my PCs will sync at all, even with new client
upgrades. All I get are 'Sorry, Unexpected Error' no matter which PC I try to
link.

RE: Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

Q:
I noticed the same problem and it seems that the "new" version has some
problems including not syncing all files. (See my post:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...c-6a0d9ffcb0f2) Below

As of this morning, you can still find the older version at
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Interne...derShare.shtml.
However the list of those sites having the older version is rapidly dropping.

Fortunately, I had the older version, so I uninstalled/reinstalled. My
problems however continued but at least I could sync some files.

Hope this helps

Louis

RE: Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

Thanks, Louis, by the time I saw your link, the file was unavailable.
However, I was able to find an earlier vaersion still at
http://www.brothersoft.com/foldersha...oad-63748.html. Unfortunately,
there must have been some underlying changes with foldershare, since synching
still will not work for me.

RE: Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

Q, there is a bug in the current release for users that have previously used
Iomega clients and unfortunately we did not find it until after our release.
We are working on fix now.

Hey Q,
Please download the new FolderShare client to address this issue.

Thanks,

Re: Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

Mr. Katz and Mr. Epling,

Thank you for your fast responses. The new client has worked for my PCs. I
apologise for the delay in my confirmation of your solution. Hopefully, other
users will be fixed by this. I know I can't be the only Windows 2000 server
still on the planet.

You were also correct in that my older Iomega setup seemed to be affecting
all of the drives' syncing. I will truely miss the Iomega connectivity, to be
honest that was the main reason I bought that particular external network
backup.

Anyway, thanks for putting time into the product. I imagine that some of our
legacy setups had to throw you for a loop.

Re: Windows 2000 not supported anymore? Why?

Also, special thanks to Louis James, who gave good solutions for reverting to
(and locating) an older client version to get by in the interim.

Regards,
