FolderShare update is here

Dear FolderShare community,

Thank you for all the feedback and your patience as we have rolled out this
first major update to the system. We apologize for the slow responses on the
newsgroup, we've been very busy working away on the issues that users have
been reporting.

Today our team posted several fixes to the FolderShare website and Windows
FolderShare client in order to address the majority of the issues reported
here by you.

On the client
- The crashing issue that some folks have seen on XP and Vista has been
addressed.

On the website
- All known logon issues have been addressed.
- Library management issues have been addressed.
- Users who are currently or had previously used the IOMEGA FolderShare Hard
Drive had various issues when using the site. These have been addressed,
but those users may need to reattach their libraries to their devices.

We recommend that:
- All users update to the new Windows client posted on the
www.foldershare.com website. (Version 14.0.1329.0317)

After installing the new client, if you are still experiencing any issues,
please let us know.

Reminders:
- The FolderShare website does not support Live ID. It will support Live ID
in the future. Currently, you should be using your regular FolderShare
credentials to logon to the website.
- New users can create FolderShare credentials using the FolderShare client.

Once again, thank you for all your support, feedback and suggestions.

RE: FolderShare update is here

Anton:

Will the new update work with less than Win XP? If not, what about users
that need the prior version. Will you post that client back on the website?
Will the updates mean that users with less than Win XP not be able to use
Foldershare?

Should we the users uninstall and reinstall or will the new client take care
of those issues?

Looking forward to your answers!

Louis James

Wow, that was fast - that has to be a record for a Microsoft team to release
both a software client, and Web-based fixes, in one week. It sucks that
there were so many problems with the first release, but it's great that
you're able to crank out fixes so fast. You should give lessons to other MS
teams. ;-)

RE: FolderShare update is here

New FolderShare clients will not support Windows 2000. This will begin to
standardize the minmum system requirements across all the Windows Live client
applications. The Windows Live minmum system requirements can be found @
http://get.live.com/wl/sysreq .

Installing the new client will address the crashing issue.

RE: FolderShare update is here

Jeremy:

Thanks for the reply. However, I must admit it's a bit confusing. In other
parts of this newsgroup you encourage users to use the "old" client but
provide no way to get it. (I realize that you were in the process of fixing
the "new" client.) Maybe you should continue to provide the "old" client
until users are comfortable with the "new".

Secondly, you are effectively removing Windows 2000 from the picture. What
about users that have Windows 2000 Servers still in the mix. I wonder how
many are still out there.

I know, I know, I know... Windows 2000 is at End of Life and you know have
Windows 2003, Vista and Windows 2008. But Vista (this year's version of
Windows ME), and the new Foldershare Client, and the fact that even Microsoft
has put back on the market XP, and the fact that many corporate offices are
not moving to Vista suggests that MS is moving too quickly on some of its
products.

I understand the need to move on. But effectively squeezing out users is
not the way to win their confidence. Stop acting like Apple.

Just some thoughts.
