| | Need to designate a "server"... (a comment) FolderShare is working wonderfully for me, and I use it to sync two desktops and two notebooks. however, the need to designate at least one machine as a server that is always on and logged in to my account is a negative - otherwise truly automatic synching will not take place between all four computers. The other newly announced synching systems (SugarSync, DropBox) get around this problem by providing on-line storage. I am a university faculty member. I can see a lot of potential for our students and my colleagues if we were able to designate a departmental server (always on) that would handle multiple users and their synching needs. However, FolderShare would have to install as a service and allow for multiple accounts with personalized synching capabilities. Would somebody on the team please let us know what the future holds for FolderShare. For example integration with SkyDrive would alleviate the "server"problem... |

FS has always required one or more of the other library members to be online in order to sync. In other words, it's peer-to-peer, not client-server. The server is only there to coordinate syncing, not to store the actual data. richi. www.richij.com |
