| Vista business 32bit | Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista I want to sync the Documents folder in my two desktop Vista machines with my older XP laptop. When I try to do so, I get the following error "Foldershare: Could not create folder C:\Users\....\Documents\My Videos\QuickCam FolderShare was unable to create a folder. Please check that there is space available on the drive, and that you have write permissions." Everything else is fine, so I do have space and write permission. But when it encounters this error, I have to exit foldershare. This seems to be caused by Vista's changes in protected folder names and locations. Any suggestions????? Stuart |

| | RE: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista Did you install the latest version of FolderShare? The legacy version did not run correctly on Vista. | Vista business 32bit | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista Yes. All computers are running Version: 14.0.1329.0317. The error dialog is very annoying in that it floats in front of the other windows and cannot be minimized. I must exit FS to get rid of the window. Did you install the latest version of FolderShare? | | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista It's strange that the library is mapped to C:\Users\....\Documents\My Videos on Vista. It should be: C:\Users\[user]\Music. Have your upgraded an XP machine to Vista with FolderShare previously installed and mapped to My Videos? Try this: Go to your FolderShare homepage, remove your two Vista machines from that library and then add them back while manually selecting the correct folder location from "Choose Folder" page. | Vista business 32bit | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista >Have your upgraded an XP machine to Vista with FolderShare previously installed and mapped to My Videos? Yes, I believe I did, a year ago when I upgraded to Vista. I haven't been able to use FS reliably since. That and the loss of function in WMDC replacing Activesync has made for my worst OS experience since Mac OS 9 >Try this: Go to your FolderShare homepage, remove your two Vista machines from that library and then add them back while manually selecting the correct folder location from "Choose Folder" page. That seems to work, at least on the xp linked to one of the vista machines. I guess I'll continue with FS, though the 20K file limit is crippling. Thanks for your help! |

| | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. The easiest way you can fix it is to do the following: 1. Uninstall the legacy version of FolderShare if you still have it 2. Delete everything under: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\FolderShare 3. Install the new client from: https://www.foldershare.com/clientdownload.aspx 4. Re-map your libraries to that machine Thanks, Christoph "stuartestrand" wrote: Quote: > Quote: > >Have your upgraded an XP machine to Vista with FolderShare previously > > Yes, I believe I did, a year ago when I upgraded to Vista. | Vista business 32bit | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista Christof: I spoke too soon. This morning, after a Windows pushed update and restart, the problem recurred: Same error dialog on all three machines. This after manually deleting the library and reinstalling on all machines, manually. All machines running version 2008 (Build 14.0.1329.0317). |

| | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista From your description is sounds like you still might have the legacy version installed on your system. The latest version of FolderShare upgrades seamlessly only the last ByteTaxi version (2.5.10) – not older ones. If you install the latest version on a machine that has an older build, you could end up with both of them installed side by side. Now, when you reboot the machine and log in (e.g. because new updates where pushed onto your machine), FolderShare starts automatically by default. If you still had an old version on the system, that one would get launched and effectively corrupt your settings by using the legacy “My Videos” mappings. To verify this hypothesis, go to Add/Remove programs and double check if you still have ByteTaxi FolderShare installed. If so, go ahead and manually uninstall it. Once you’ve done that, launch the new version (the shortcut is under Programs->Windows Live). At that point, because the “My Videos” mapping is incorrect, that library will get disconnected. Then simply go to your FolderShare homepage and add your machine again to that library. Let me know if this fixes the problem. If not, we’ll take a look at your log files (both client and server) and figure out what’s going on. Thanks, Christoph "stuartestrand" wrote: Quote: > > Christof: I spoke too soon. | home basic | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista I had the same problem. I had new version on both computers (XP / Vista). It worked to begin with but after i tried to open a file that had not finished syncing and got error, and then by coincidence restarted my compute because of new vista sp1 update today, no file syncing would work to my vista computer, files would go to my xp computer from my vista computer fine but not the other way around. I fixed it easily by clicking change users and signing up again with new email address and file syncing worked fine with new account, I also uninstalled foldershare on my vista computer before re-installing and logging in. |

| home basic | Re: Foldershare problems syncing XP with Vista I continued to have problems, it seems that after a reboot foldershare does not load properly in my vista, maybe the only time it loads properly is after a new install? so when I want to use it I just install it again |
