Vista - FolderShare: Could not create folder

FolderShare: Could not create folder

On Vist I get....

"C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Music\My Yahoo! Music

FolderShare was unable to create a folder. Please check that there is space
available on the drive, and that you have write permissions."

There is plenty of space available. Not only do I have write permission, I
gave "Everybody" write permission on the "My Music" folder.

Trying to sync with XP Pro PC (if that matters).

I uninstalled and re-installed on the Vista PC getting this message to no
avail.

So, what's up?

Re: FolderShare: Could not create folder

Hi Jim,

Are you running the latest version (14.0.1331.0415) of FolderShare? The
legacy versions aren't supported on Vista.

Here are the steps to uninstall FolderShare from Vista

1) Click Start, click in the Start Search box, type appwiz.cpl, and then
press ENTER.
2) In the list of installed programs, uninstall FolderShare (uninstall any
duplicate entries of FolderShare)
3) Delete everything under: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\FolderShare
4) Install the new client from:
https://www.foldershare.com/clientdownload.aspx
5) Re-map you libraries to that machine

Let me know if this fixes the problem.

Thanks,
Francisco

Re: FolderShare: Could not create folder

Francisco,

Thanks for replying, but that did not solve the issue. I was using the
latest version, but I uninstalled and re-installed to make sure that nothing
was corrupt.

I still get the same error. You can see an image of the exact error dialog
at http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/3...reerrorji1.jpg .

I really need this to work. Meanwhile, I will be writing a mirroring
solution using VB.Net 2008 - but it will only sync when connected to the
local network.

Is there anything else that I can try?

Re: FolderShare: Could not create folder

Hi Jim,

Thank you for including the picture of the error, but I’m sorry to see that
you’re still running into the same problem. Taking a look at the error, it’s
seems that the Vista music folder is mapped to an incorrect location. This
might occur if you upgraded from Windows XP. The correct path on Vista for
music should be: C:\Users\[User]\Music\

Let’s try this:
1. On Vista, make sure you music files are under the correct directory
(C:\Users\Joe Sasso\Music\My Yahoo! Music)
2. Go to your FolderShare homepage and delete that specific library
3. Re-create the library and add the machines while manually selecting the
correct folder locations

Let me know if this fixes the issue.

Thanks,
Francisco

Re: FolderShare: Could not create folder

I did what you said, but I still get the same error.

I am actually trying to sync Joe's "My Documents" folder with a backup
folder on his XP machine.

I removed the share and re-added it.

This time I went to Windows Explorer>C:>Users>Joe Sasso>Documents to create
the share.

I'm not sure, but does Vista do some stupid virtual folder thing that could
be screwing this up?

I ask because you said the Vista Music folder may not be mapped correctly.
We have not "mapped" any Vista folders (other than network shares on other
PCs).

This is a Vista Ultimate Toshiba laptop that came with infected with Vista.
(I told him not to do it, but he wanted to try Vista anyway.....now he
regrets it - as do I.)

Anything else we can try before reverting to XP?

Re: FolderShare: Could not create folder

Hi Jim,

I'm sorry that you still can't connect to FolderShare and I do appreciate
your patience while we try to resolve this problem. At this point, we'll
need your FolderShare username and log files (from the Vista machine that is
producing the error) so we can further look into this issue. Your log files
are located at:

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\FolderShare\logs\

Please send the FS logs and your username to: fjgarciaa (at) hotmail (dot)
com

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Best,
Francisco
