| | folder share and music libraries I tried to sync my music libraries between my desktop and laptop with foldershare. When it transfered files, it modified the name to include the computers name and I ended up with double files of each mp3. how can I do this? My purpose is to have all my music on both PCs. Currently, There is about a 700 file count and I cant figure which computer is missing what? |

| | RE: folder share and music libraries Richard I use Foldershare to keep my music and my photos in sync both my laptop and my desktop at home. I had the same issue as you have now. Here I found the the MP3 aren't exactly the same. Most have tags like stars or play count, different for both computers, so Foldershare created the copies. If Foldershare already finished syncint, just delete the double files and things will be fine again. But if you worried and canceled the sync, you can do the following before trying to sync again: 1) Determinate you computer that have the more up to date music, if necessary, manually copy files so you have one computer fully up to date. 2) Use windows backup utility to make a backup of those music 3) Restore the backup of the music on the other computer, and remember to set the backup utilitiy to overwrite the files 4) from now don't use any software like windows media player, itunes, media monkey, or any software that may update the tags of you music. 5) let the foldershare sync 6) Use the files as usual And for Foldershare team, I wish to suggest: Delta encoding, as music files have meta data updated, don't need to transfer entire file again... And also a way to computers on same local network comunicated directly when possible, avoiding wasting internet bandwidht "Richard" wrote: Quote: > I tried to sync my music libraries between my desktop and laptop with > foldershare. | | RE: folder share and music libraries Thank you Fellipe. Good advice. I started manually updating my desktop music files. The main obstacle which I did not articulate well in my post, is that my desktop has 700 more music files than my laptop, and a total of 10,600. Yet, there are files on my laptop which are not on my desktop. I thought this would be an easy way to combine all my files without loosing any. thanks again "Fellipe Carneiro" wrote: Quote: > Richard > > I use Foldershare to keep my music and my photos in sync both my laptop and > my desktop at home. > > I had the same issue as you have now.
