FolderShare Questions by Newbie

I was invited to join a library in order to download files and to synch the
folder to
my computer. I've installed and uninstalled and reinstalled FolderShare
about 12 times so far. As far as I can understand, if the person I am
sharing with is on line, I should be able to see his files and connect to
them. This is not happening.

I am running Windows XP Pro. Here is what is happening (or not happening!):
1) I have configured my router for port forwarding, however, when I type
ipconfig at the command prompt, the IP address is always different. This may
be lousing up
the ports to open.
2) Yesterday, Foldershare said the ports were open; today they are blocked.
Even with the ports open (and I knew that the person with whom I want to
share files was on line), nothing happened.
3) My Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Windows Firewall both say to allow an
exception for FolderShare.

I don't know where else to look.

RE: FolderShare Questions by Newbie

I haven't done any 'inviting' since I first experimented with FolderShare
before the Microsoft acquisition.

But, I suspect your problem is on the other end - the 'creator' or 'master'
site may need to redo the invitation to you or your creditential to connect
and share.

I'd ask the part that created the library to walk through the whole process
with you again, and potentially with someone else to eliminate the
possibility the problem is on their end.

Good luck and please post results of any further experiments you do.

You must both be online, you must both be running the FolderShare
application and the Microsoft servers must also be operating.

Using DHCP (where your computer receives an assigned IP address from the
router) is not compatible with most methods of setting port forwarding.
But you do not need port forwarding for FolderShare to work. That is not
your problem.

Don't worry about that Port Status report on Accepting Connections. That
can affect your connection speed but it will not prevent the connections.

Good. But if in doubt, shutting down the firewalls just briefly in order
to determine whether doing that affects the connections is unlikely to be
materially risky.

Ensure that both computers are connected at the same time, both are running
the FolderShare application and also wait for FolderShare's central servers
to go back online - Microsoft have now taken them down for maintenance.
