| | "Too Old" error & workaround Some Observations... I have FolderShare synchronizing three machines. One is XP, one is Vista Home Premium, and one is Vista Ultimate. For the most part, this seems to be working fine. The exception is that on the Vista Ultimate laptop, I work from a DSL line at home, and a Wireless DSL card on the road. Whenever I connect using the Wireless DSL card, I receive the "This version is too old" error. One problem is that there doesn't appear to be any uninstall for FolderShare. To uninstall it, I have to download the MSI package and run it, then choose Uninstall as the option. Doing a "Repair" will not fix the problem. The only fix I've found is to uninstall FolderShare, then re-install it. Again, this ONLY happens when I'm using the Wireless DSL card. I can unconnect, reconnect, reboot, and so on forever when I'm using the regular DSL. Oh, except for the FIRST time I go from Wireless to Wired, that is. I have to do the uninstall/reinstall once to get it back to normal. Then it's good until I go back to Wireless DSL. The error occurs when the Wireless DSL is fired up - about 75% of the time if I shut it down but don't un-plug it (it's USB), and 100% of the time if I unplug it or reboot the computer. If anyone else is in the same fix, I've found that it's easiest to just leave the MSI on my desktop. Then when the error occurs, I launch it, uninstall FolderShare, re-launch it, then re-install FolderShare. A hassle surely, but not too traumatic for a Beta product. Hope this helps someone! - Dayton - Tue. 06/24/2008 @ 12:41:08 |
