Remote Back Up

I am looking for a good online automatic back up program to back up my
important files. FS looks like it needs your PC to be on and act as a
server. Is there an automatic synch feature in Skydrive? Does someone have
a recommendation for a good program that will not hijack your processor?

Re: Remote Back Up

I use Symantec Backup Exec 12 on a XP x64 workstation with my tape drives. Vista x64 has a remote agent. It has a scheduler in it. It can do disk to disk also. It handles the system state and shadow copy along with .NET stuff.

Re: Remote Back Up

Has anyone tried a 3rd party online service like X-Drive or Mozy?

I recommend Mozy: http://www.mozy.com

FS is for sharing not for backup purposes. With mozy you can store 2 GB
(or more) on a safe location.

If you want to have the 2 GB you simply have to register here:
<https://mozy.com/registration/free>

And if you use the referral code ZDZG7N then you and me we both get 250
MB extra space.

If you need even more space then you can buy unlimited space for 4,95$
per month.

It does everything you need from a backup programm. It can't share data.
It doesn't make FS obsolete.

Re: Remote Back Up

(this is going to sound like a promotional speech or fan boy for mozy, but i
really dont work for them, i've just been incredibly happy with their
service. )

hi, i have used foldershare for years.. i use it to sync three computers
then use mozy as an offsite backup. I've been incredibly happy with the
service. i've been using it for about a year and a half. i run two macs and 1
PC. i use foldershare to sync up all the data onto one of the computers then
use Mozy to back it all up offsite. Mozy is 54.00 a yr for unlimited storage
backup. Currently i'm using about 110gigs worth of backup space on their
server. The initial backup took FOREVER to upload.. probably about 3 weeks of
constant uploading. Cox (my internet provider) was NOT happy about my
uploading but eventually it all got there. Now the differential backups are
very quick. maybe an hour or two at night depending on how much i change or
how many pictures i took that week. Mozy does have versioning so if i
overwrite a file on accident i can go back to last weeks copy or last months
copy. It has saved me quite a few times. You can go back about 3 months or
so... which is nice. If you have a complete system failure and you dont want
to redownload everything they will ship you your backup on DVD's for a small
fee.

I've been astonished by Mozy's support.. i've had two problems/questions.
Both times i had a working solution in under an hour. Great service.

The software is very small and flexible, once you get it set up you really
dont have to think about it. I check on it every few weeks just to make sure
its really working but i've been very happy with the service.
