Vista - Changing computer name

Changing computer name

I wanted to clone a computer, so I cloned the hard drive then used a new copy
of XP Pro and did a REPAIR to get the new system up and running. I gave the
new machine a new name, but FolderShare simply will NOT let me rename the
computer ID. Whenever both machines start, I get the msg that "Another copy
of FolderShare with the same ID is running". I have deleted and reinstalled
the copy of Foldershare on both machines, I have gone to the web site and
removed the machine (because there is only one machine name) and restarted
it. All to no avail. What should I try next?

RE: Changing computer name

Thanks for the post.

It seems that while you were cloaning HDD, you ended up cloned FolderShare
user information as well. As a workarond, delete "settings" folder under
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\FolderShare and restart
FolderShare, then sign in with your accont. It should fix your problem.

By the way, you may need to re-map existing libraries to sync to the machine.

Thanks,

RE: Changing computer name

Hi, Matt

Are you running any utility/service to sync your preferences b/w machines?
if so, you may consider stopping it to avoid the same issue for the future.

For the Mac client, you can try following steps.
1. Close FolderShare
2. Delete ~\Library\Application Support\FolderShare folder
3. Delete ~\Library\Preferences\com.bytetaxi.foldershare.plist file
4. Restart FolderShare, then sign in with your account
5. You may need to re-map existing libraries to sync to the machine again

Thank you,
