| | One PC always remains "off-line" no matter what I do I'm on a Vista SP1 on an Asus notebook and Dell desktop. I have uninstalled FS on my desktop and notebook, and reinstalled the lastest build available to try to correct the problem with no luck. The problem didn't exist until the Foldershare team updated their build on about 6/26/08. If they've made new builds since, I have the latest one because to correct the problem I uninstalled FS and reinstalled it on both boxes--the desktop and the laptop. I never had problems using Foldershare to the extent I used it, after MSFT bought it. Before the June new build, I was able to use it to sync an Iphone and Itouch so that I could open all the folders on my external HD and use the Apple devices as ebook readers by simply navigating to the appropriate .pdf, html, or chm file that represented the ebook on the little guy which enabled me to carry any number of books in my pocket. The problems started after the most recent update which was the last week of June. I've read the Foldershare team blog and the Live help pages, and I don't find a solution for my problem. I did contact a couple people on the Live Foldershare team with this and they urged me to send the foldershare logs so they could look at them at the end of July, but I never heard back. I posted on this group, but didn't see any solutions so I thought I'd pitch the problem again. Here's the problem that never existed prior tp the end of June. I'm signed into Foldershare on both boxes. However, I can't communicate between the boxes as I could before June 26 because no matter what I do, no matter what settings I tweak, no matter whether I uninstall and reinstall FS to ensure I have the latest version,. build or "client" as they like calling it over @ http://foldershareteam.spaces.live.com/ . No matter what I do, I can't get it to show the desktop online and because of this I can't use it to sink files, and folders between computers. I also noticed, and this is significant "to me" because I was using foldershare to make an ebook reader out of my Iphone when I travel and it worked, that after the 6/26/08 new client update I can't open folders on the little guy as I used to be able to perfectly. What can I do to get the desktop on line. I absolutely am connected to what Teddy the Stevens called "a series of tubes" or the internet, and I absolutely am signed in to Foldershare on both boxes. Thanks very much in advance, CH |

| | RE: One PC always remains "off-line" no matter what I do Try the following - this will effectively reset FolderShare settings on your computer: 1. Shut down FolderShare 2. Delete C:\Users\chrisze.REDMOND\AppData\Local\FolderShare 3. Restart FolderShare and add this computer back to the libraries you need to synchronize Let us know if this works. | | Re: One PC always remains "off-line" no matter what I do Hi Chris-- I sure appreciate your trying to help. This is what I did and it does not work. Let me be explicitly clear as to what I did and what I'm still seeing that seems recalicitrant. 1) I start up foldershare by going to www.foldershare.com on my desktop and I log in. 2) I start up foldershare by going to www. foldershare.com on my notebook and I log in. When I do the notebook is online in the foldershare gui, but the desktop remains off line. Chris' remedy I tried to follow: I went to the C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\FolderShare and Shift + Deleted the foldershare folder. I logged into foldershare and the Desktop remains off line @ Foldershare. Do you have any suggestions as to what to try now? Keep in mind that I did uninstall and reinstall foldersahareon both boxes countless times. I have gone to settings where I have seen Foldershare in the notification area by right clickiing off the context menu and made sure that there is a check in the box "allow remote access to this computer." Foldershare runs when I log on to Windows. | | It works now with added steps--Thanks Christoph-- It works now. But in addition to deleting the file I had to do this on the box that persisted in staying "off line", I had to 1) go to msnconfig and check Foldershare on the Startup tab. 2) Then with the icon in the notification area I had to sign in for the first time. 3) Then I had to go to www.foldershare.com and sign in for the second time. After those steps, now both computers are on line. I appreciate it. Now with it working I can drill it a little to see what else I can get done with it. I noticed I couldn't open folders as I used to from an Iphone or Itouch, but maybe things will be different now. I suspect that now if I keep it checked at msconfig's startup tab, I won't have to sign in but once to the website www.foldershare.com What I don't understand though, is why you have to allow it to startup, since many programs will work without being allowed to run at startup. I'm pretty sure I tried to go to the program list and startup and sign into Foldershare before, so although it seems paradoxical, deleting that folder does do the trick. What's also confusing though is that there is a foldershare folder at C:\Program Files\Foldershare and I'm not sure (and would like to) I understand the difference in the two and why one was in the way, and expendable. I sure appreciate your help.
