| | Re: Windows Live Sync replacing FolderShare: What you need to know I've got to say that I'm a little surprised about the excitement about this announcement. As a FS user since the very beginning - and an original paying "Professional" subscriber before Microsoft bought the product and team, I mostly have to agree that the "progress" has been to dumb down a great and flawless product. I've got many of the same concerns already outlined and not yet answered - when is this happening, how much warning, folders versus libraries, live sync v mesh, etc. As a grandfathered "Professional" license, the loss of the 50 library/50,000 file limits is a huge disappointment as I use several libraries with well over 20,000 files. I'd gladly pay again for an upgraded plan but to be forced backward seems so unfair and silly. I hope this transition works but if not, I hope someone will post a really great survey of the available competitors out there. Unfortunately it seems like FS has always been the best and remains so (and I'm a huge fan - don't get me wrong - and have been since Day 1) so that there are no great answers out there to replicate the "old" FS among the usual suspects of BeInSync, SugarSync, PowerFolder, etc. I also have to say that the tone of the message to suggest that existing users might have to just "get in line" if demand is as high as MS expects is really off-putting given the number of us who count on this as a mission-critical product in our day-to-day operations at this point. It's bad when the servers are down or work is being done that disrupts the service but to be told we might have difficulty transitioning on a reasonable schedule at an otherwise already busy time of year is not what I'd call client friendly. I applaud the original FS team and work and hope that this "upgrade" which in my case and that of any other old Professional users is definitely a "downgrade" ends up being a good thing. Josh |

BTW: Will a Mac client be released at the same time? And which quality will it have? Will it be as "good" as the Mesh client - which means that it doesn't even work? Michael |

Why not have a month-long window where FS continues to work, but people can opt to install Sync during that time. Then send out staggered emails prompting users to upgrade now so that the migration is somewhat managed. By reading this thread I understand that you mean to write down who has access to which shared libraries, but it may also mean take note of the locations of any shared libraries you don't own (or risk duplicating data), no? Maybe it is me that is being obtuse, but your communication of a major announcement could have been better IMHO. |

| | RE: Windows Live Sync replacing FolderShare: What you need to know Hello, I am using Foldershare, and I nam VERY satisfied for the use I need. I also installed that solution to some customer's. Does a GOOD reliable beta version (or already the final version, as we are in December, when LiveSync should be released) exist, so that I can see how everything will work, react (swith from Foldershare) before I have to upgrade my customer's sites? | | Re: Windows Live Sync replacing FolderShare: What you need to know and of course answers as to the mac version go unanswered as always, leave it to microsoft to take a perfectly functioning piece of software that works well on macs, botch it up really good, then delay, and delay, and delay, and ignore requests as to when a fixed version will be released. sorry if I seem rather negative about this but I've sat quietly waiting on the new mac client for well over a year now while watching new version after new version released for windows. my patience has reached an end. I have swapped to dropbox, perhaps I'll return if and when microsoft decides to support the mac end of the foldershare product once again Brandon Stone wrote: Quote: > Anton Katz [MSFT] wrote: Quote: >> Dear FolderShare friends, >> >> We want to let you know what's next for FolderShare, and to make you >> aware of some important upcoming changes. >> >> In December, we will release a new product called Windows Live Sync. >> You can think of it as FolderShare 2.0.
